No, Carley Fortune’s books do not need to be read in order. Each novel follows a different couple and can be enjoyed as a standalone romance.
That said, I recommend reading Every Summer After before One Golden Summer. While One Golden Summer works perfectly well on its own, it features Charlie Florek, a character readers first meet in Every Summer After.
Since I read the books in that order myself, I felt like it added an extra layer to Charlie’s story. It was so much fun returning to Barry’s Bay and finally seeing a beloved character step into the spotlight!

If you’re wondering where to start, I recommend Every Summer After. Not only is it Carley Fortune’s debut novel and her most popular release, but it’s also the book that introduced readers to her signature blend of nostalgia, emotional romance, and unforgettable summer settings.
After reading Every Summer After, I would definitely jump into One Golden Summer—another one of my personal favourites. As a companion novel, it revisits Barry’s Bay while telling a beautiful story of its own. It’s one of those books that lingers with you long after you’ve turned the final page.

Yes! Carley Fortune’s bestselling novel Every Summer After has been adapted into a television series titled Every Year After. The eight-episode romantic drama premieres on Prime Video on June 10, 2026 and stars Sadie Soverall as Percy Fraser and Matt Cornett as Sam Florek.
The series follows Percy and Sam’s emotional love story across multiple summers at the lake, bringing the nostalgia, heartbreak, and second-chance romance that readers fell in love with in the book. Carley Fortune is also involved in the project as an executive producer. How exciting is that?
While we all have our opinions on whether to read the book before the adaptation, I will say that no matter what, Every Summer After should be on your radar—it’s one of my all-time favourite books and deserves a spot on every romance reader’s TBR!

Yes! A television adaptation of This Summer Will Be Different is currently in development at Netflix.
While many details about the project have not yet been announced, the adaptation will bring Lucy and Felix’s beloved Prince Edward Island romance to the screen. As more information about the cast, release date, and production becomes available, I’ll update this guide with the latest news.
