Best friends have one week in paradise to fix their friendship or fall apart in this heart-stopping, utterly romantic new novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Every Summer After and One Golden Summer.
Frankie and George have been best friends since they were eight years old. Both passionate, impulsive, and headstrong—they’ve always clashed … and come back together. Until now. It’s the eve of Frankie’s wedding weekend, and she doesn’t know where they stand or even if George will show up as her best man.
Then, at the start of the festivities, in walks George. For one glorious evening, surrounded by her loved ones, Frankie’s life is finally perfect. But it all comes crashing down when her fiancé dumps her the next morning, leaving only a note as an explanation.
Crushed and confused, Frankie returns to her family’s home to wallow. But George has a different idea and a plan for healing Frankie’s broken heart. He wants her to go on her honeymoon. With him. For one week, to the lush rainforests and misty beaches of Tofino.
Frankie agrees, seeing the trip for what it really is: one last chance to repair their friendship. Even if it means unearthing secrets and long buried feelings neither knows how to handle. Even if it means falling apart for good.
Our Perfect Summer Book Review
I adore Carley Fortune—Every Summer After is one of my all-time favourite books, so I’ve been patiently waiting for her next release. I was lucky enough to get an early copy of Our Perfect Storm and read it while visiting British Columbia, which made the experience feel even more special, given the setting!
Our Perfect Storm follows Frankie and George, best friends since childhood, whose relationship has always been full of ups and downs. When Frankie’s wedding falls apart, George convinces her to take the honeymoon trip with him. What begins as a chance to repair their friendship quickly becomes something deeper as old feelings resurface during their week in Tofino.
Frankie and George are wonderful main characters, and their connection is so easy to feel from the start. There’s a natural pull between them that makes their story incredibly compelling, especially given the chance to reconnect after everything they’ve been through. Their history adds so much depth to their relationship, and I loved watching those layers unfold. You can’t help but root for them, even when things get complicated.
The romance in Our Perfect Storm is sweet, tender, and full of emotional moments that really pull you in. The second-chance romance trope works beautifully here, especially given the added complexity of their long-standing friendship. If I had one small critique, it would be the communication between Frankie and George—it’s clear that being more open with each other could have prevented some of the heartbreak along the way. That said, it’s still a genuine and endearing story of reconnection and growth—sometimes miscommunication needs to happen for that to be delivered.
One of my favourite things about Carley Fortune’s books is her writing. From the very first page, it draws me in. It’s descriptive and entertaining, yet fresh and heartfelt. It’s the perfect mix for me, and no matter which book of hers I’m reading, it always works for me.
The setting was another standout for me. I always love the Canadian backdrop in Carley Fortune’s books, and the West Coast setting was the perfect atmosphere for this story. It added a rich, immersive layer to the reading experience. There was something so fun about reading this book while visiting that made it even more immersive for me!
Overall, Our Perfect Storm is a heartfelt, satisfying romance that blends friendship, second chances, and emotional depth. Carley Fortune’s writing is as beautiful as ever, and her ability to craft stories that feel nostalgic yet fresh is something I’ll never get tired of.
I’ll read anything she writes at this point, and I already can’t wait to see what she releases next. If you love second-chance romance, friends-to-lovers stories, and emotional, character-driven love stories, this is definitely one to add to your list!
