A millionaire and a house cleaner are a match maid in heaven in this sparkling new romantic comedy by Lynn Painter, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Happily Never After.

As a professional cleaner, Abi Mariano never thought her apartment would have any sort of infestation, but because of a building-wide outbreak, she now needs somewhere to stay for a week. As a part-time student with two jobs, she doesn’t have many options. Then the solution presents itself: the owner of the penthouse she cleans is out of town for the week. She normally wouldn’t consider it, but he’s literally never around (she hasn’t even met him). It goes great … until one morning she finds two strangers in the kitchen. They’re the parents of the penthouse owner and they seem to think they’ve heard all about Abi—not as their son’s maid, but as his girlfriend.

Declan Powell has always put his career first, working his way up to become an executive at his company, but he still has his sights set on the next level. When his parents mention that they met his girlfriend, “Abby,” he all but chokes on his escargot. As wonderful as it sounds that she was just darling, he doesn’t actually have a girlfriend—he made her up to get everyone off his back. When Dex finds out who Abi really is, he makes her a proposition: pretend to date him, and he’ll provide everything she needs during their little arrangement. What harm would it do? It’s purely business, no pleasure … right?

Maid for Each Other Book Review

Lynn Painter is one of my auto-buy authors. Whether it’s one of her adult romances or her young adult novels, I never pass up the chance to dive into her stories. Maid for Each Other is another fun and flirty romance packed with Painter’s signature charm—and, as expected, I couldn’t put it down.

Maid for Each Other follows Abi, a struggling maid, and Declan, a wealthy and emotionally guarded bachelor. When she’s mistaken for Declan’s girlfriend, he proposes a fake relationship to impress his image-conscious family—with a hefty payout on the line. Abi agrees, setting the stage for a romance full of awkward encounters, escalating chemistry, and heartwarming moments.

Abi and Declan were such a joy to read. They have that classic Lynn Painter banter that always makes me smile, and I loved watching their dynamic shift from forced proximity to something real. There are so many fun moments between them that had me giggling—whether they were making up stories about each other or improvising on the spot, it kept me turning the page. Their chemistry was undeniable, and both characters experienced lovely emotional growth as their connection deepened.

I’ve always loved a good fake dating trope, and this one delivered! Was the premise slightly far-fetched? Sure—Declan’s offer might seem a little over the top— he is a millionaire, though, so maybe it’s not all that unrealistic coming from him?! But I wasn’t reading for realism. I was reading for fun, and Maid for Each Other absolutely delivered on that front. It’s quirky, sweet, and full of laugh-out-loud moments—everything I look for in a good romantic comedy.

Overall, Maid for Each Other is another win from Lynn Painter. I’d highly recommend it to her existing fans or anyone who loves a feel-good romantic comedy with sizzling chemistry and a whole lot of heart. If you haven’t read one of her books yet, this is your sign to pick one up!
