One of the newest titles on this list, it proves that young adult vampire books are still as irresistible as ever.

Dark, daring, and swoonworthy, this is Hafsah Faizal at her very best—perfect for readers who love Six of Crows but wish it had more vampires.

Belle Morte by Bella Higgin
At Belle Morte, vampires live like celebrities while humans line up to be their donors—but for one girl, it’s not about glamour, it’s about finding her missing sister. Seductive and full of secrets, this one pulls you straight into its gothic world and doesn’t let go.

Bloody Fool for Love by William Ritter
Before he was the iconic bad boy of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Spike was already stirring up trouble in London. Fast-paced, witty, and gloriously bloody, this prequel is a must for Buffy fans who can’t get enough of Spike’s roguish charm.

Blue Bloods by Melissa De La Cruz
Gossip Girl meets gothic vampire lore in this glittering New York City tale of power, secrets, and bloodlines. When Schuyler Van Alen’s quiet outsider life collides with the Blue Bloods—a secret society of the city’s most elite (and undead) families—she’s pulled into a dangerous world of mystery, romance, and betrayal. Sleek, dramatic, and addictive, this series is a cornerstone of young adult vampire fiction.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
Cassandra Clare’s City of Bones kicks off the iconic Mortal Instruments series, where Shadowhunters battle demons in a hidden New York City. Packed with danger, romance, and unforgettable characters, it’s the kind of fantasy that pulls you in and refuses to let go. While the spotlight is on Shadowhunters, vampires play a key role in this world—and as one of my all-time favourite young adult fantasy authors, Clare makes every twist worth the read.

Crave by Tracy Wolff
Think Twilight with a fresh, modern twist—Crave drops you into an elite academy where danger lurks in every hallway and the brooding vampire prince might be the biggest threat of all. Mortal girl meets immortal secrets, forbidden romance, and a dark mystery that could destroy them both. Addictive, dramatic, and swoony, this series is a binge-read for anyone who still loves their vampire books with a side of star-crossed love.

After losing her family in a tragic accident, Ever Bloom discovers she can see auras, hear thoughts, and know a person’s past with a single touch—gifts she’d rather not have. Then she meets Damen, the only one who can quiet the noise and make her feel seen, even as his world of secrets pulls her in deeper. I still remember curling up with The Immortals series for the first time, and it hooked me right away—haunting, romantic, and completely addictive.

From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Chosen to live as the Maiden, Poppy is supposed to be untouchable, unseen, and untouched—but her heart has other plans. A lost heiress. A cruelly captivating vampire. And an elite university where danger lurks in every shadow. When Kidan Adane infiltrates Uxlay University to find her missing sister, she’s forced to live alongside Susenyos—the very vampire she suspects destroyed her family. Dark academia meets blood-soaked romantasy in this haunting debut, perfect for fans of The Cruel Prince, Ninth House, and every morally gray, enemies-to-lovers romance you can’t stop thinking about.

Marked by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast
I remember buying The House of Night series one by one and devouring every single book—and it all starts with Marked. Sixteen-year-old Zoey Redbird is chosen by the vampyre Goddess Nyx and sent to the House of Night, a school where fledglings train to survive the Change. Between rivalries, hidden powers, and dangerous choices, Zoey quickly learns her new life is full of risks—and destiny.

With sharp writing and plenty of Buffy callbacks, this series opener is a must for anyone ready to dive back into the Slayerverse.

Sweet Nightmare by Tracy Wolff
The only thing worse than being stuck at Calder Academy? Being stuck there with Jude Abernathy-Li—the infuriating boy you’re not supposed to want but can’t stop thinking about. This school for wayward paranormals is terrifying enough on a good day, but when a storm traps everyone on the island, real nightmares start hunting in the dark. Twisty, eerie, and fueled by dangerous chemistry, it’s a paranormal academy story with bite.

The Afterlife of the Party by Marlene Perez
Full of snark, wild twists, and a vampire war that crashes the tour, this book is as hilarious as it is action-packed. Tansy never wanted to go to that Hollywood Hills party—and she definitely didn’t plan to leave it as a vampire. Now, with her best friend stuck as a groupie for a band of bloodsuckers, Tansy teams up with her maybe-more-than-a-friend Vaughn for a road trip that’s equal parts dangerous and delightfully chaotic.

The Beautiful by Renée Ahdieh
New Orleans, 1872—a city steeped in secrets, decadence, and the rule of the dead. A mix of dark suspense and star-crossed romance, this one is a treat for Buffy fans and YA readers alike.

Cursed with the power to see how her loved ones will die, Elise Beaumont has every reason to hate vampires—until she’s forced to work with Claire, one assigned to help her master her Death Oracle powers. What starts as reluctant teamwork turns into an undeniable pull, even as a killer stalks their town and secrets about Elise’s brother’s death unravel. Queer, bloody, and packed with paranormal intrigue, this one gives the vampire–high school trope a sharp, fresh twist.

The Dangerous Ones by Lauren Blackwood
Vampires on the battlefield of the American Civil War? Lauren Blackwood makes it work brilliantly in this romantic historical fantasy. Jerusalem, a Saint with demigod-like abilities, has every reason to hate the undead—she escaped enslavement by one, and her family paid the ultimate price. But when a mission forces her to partner with Alexei, an arrogant yet loyal Union vampire, she must decide whether to trust him in order to win the war, avenge her family, and maybe even kill a god.

The Fell of Dark by Caleb Roehrig
Crushing on a hot vampire is hard enough—figuring out how to save the world at the same time is even harder. August Pfeiffer is stuck in Fulton Heights, a town plagued by supernatural drama, when a mysterious new vampire appears with a warning that puts Auggie right in the middle of an ancient power struggle. Funny, romantic, and full of twists, Caleb Roehrig delivers a fresh LGBTQ+ spin on the classic vampire tale.

The Good Vampire’s Guide to Blood & Boyfriends by Jamie D’Amato
Funny, heartfelt, and just a little bloody—this queer rom-com is Heartstopper meets Buffy in the best way. Brennan’s barely settled back into college life when he’s hit with the ultimate curveball: turning into a vampire. Between a crush-worthy campus librarian who discovers his secret, a quirky clan of “good” vampires, and the everyday chaos of college, Brennan has to figure out if balancing love, friendship, and bloodlust is even possible.

The Lost Girls: A Vampire Revenge Story by Sonia Hartl
John Tucker Must Die with vampires—Sonia Hartl’s The Lost Girls serves up dark humour, feminist bite, and a queer romance you won’t want to miss. Holly Liddell was turned in the ’80s and abandoned by her maker, stuck forever at sixteen and working the midnight shift at Taco Bell. When she teams up with two other discarded exes to stop him from preying on more girls, Holly not only finds her strength but an unexpected spark with Parker, the newest target. Witty, subversive, and full of girl gang energy, this one is as fun as it is fierce.

The Scarlet Veil by Shelby Mahurin
As Belterra’s first huntswoman, Célie Tremblay is determined to prove herself—but when bodies start turning up with telltale bite marks, her resolve is tested by an enemy who tempts her as much as he terrifies her. Part murder mystery, part forbidden romance, this dark and atmospheric story bites down hard. Shelby Mahurin’s fantasy worlds are always addictive, and this one is no exception.

The Witch and the Vampire by Francesca Flores
Once best friends, now sworn enemies—Ava is a vampire, Kaye is a witch, and neither trusts the other. But when fate forces them into the cursed forest together, their journey is as tangled with danger as it is with old feelings and unresolved love. With monstrous trees, bloodthirsty foes, and betrayal lurking at every step, this queer Rapunzel retelling is equal parts dark fantasy and aching romance.

This Ravenous Fate by Hayley Dennings
1920s Harlem comes alive with jazz, gangsters, and vampires in this lush fantasy where power and danger walk hand in hand. Elise Saint, heir to a family empire built on hunting reapers, never expected to be forced into an uneasy alliance with Layla Quinn—the girl she once loved, then betrayed, who now lives as the very creature Elise is sworn to destroy. Glamorous, gritty, and full of enemies-to-lovers tension, this story weaves murder mysteries, forbidden romance, and the intoxicating pulse of the Jazz Age into one unforgettable vampire story.

The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith
No roundup of vampire books would feel complete without The Vampire Diaries. The story begins with Elena, a seemingly perfect small-town girl caught between two very different vampire brothers: Stefan, mysterious and protective, and Damon, seductive and dangerous. It’s dramatic, addictive, and packed with tension—and since the TV series is one of my personal favourites to rewatch during spooky season, I love revisiting where it all started on the page.

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
Of course, I have to include the book that started the entire vampire craze: Twilight. Moving to the rainy town of Forks, Bella Swan never expected to fall in love with Edward Cullen—a vampire whose secret puts both of them in danger. Suspenseful, dramatic, and swoon-worthy, this series redefined young adult romance for a whole generation, and it’s still one of my nostalgic favourites to revisit (especially alongside Midnight Sun, Edward’s side of the story).

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy is a must-read for anyone who loves boarding school drama, forbidden romance, and high-stakes danger. Rose Hathaway, a dhampir in training, is sworn to protect her best friend Lissa—a vampire princess hunted by the deadly Strigoi. Between the Academy’s ruthless social scene, risky romances, and terrifying threats, this series quickly became an international sensation. It’s so popular, it even inspired both a movie and a recent TV series—but nothing beats diving into the books that started it all.

Vampires, Hearts & Other Dead Things by Margie Fuston
New Orleans has always been a city of mystery, but for Victoria, it’s her last hope. With her father dying and vampires long vanished into hiding, she sets out with her estranged best friend to track one down and bargain for immortality. What begins as a desperate quest becomes something more—nights filled with music, beignets, and unexpected connections—even as the weight of grief never leaves her. Lyrical, haunting, and deeply human, this debut captures both the ache of loss and the joy of living.

Vampires Never Get Old: Tales With Fresh Bite edited by Zoraida Cordova and Natalie C. Parker
If you’re craving fresh takes on vampire lore, Vampires Never Get Old serves up eleven of them from some of YA’s most celebrated authors. From social justice–fighting bloodsuckers to vampires wishing for selfies to stories that weave in family, identity, and dark romance, this collection proves the genre is endlessly adaptable. With contributions from big names like V. E. Schwab, Julie Murphy, Rebecca Roanhorse, and more, it’s a must-read for anyone who loves seeing classic tropes reimagined in bold, creative ways.

Youngblood by Sasha Laurens
High school is tough—especially when it’s full of vampires. Kat Finn finally lands a spot at the elite Harcote School, only to be roomed with her ex–best friend, Taylor Sanger, an out-and-proud lesbian fed up with vampire society’s outdated rules. As dead bodies surface and old feelings resurface, they’re dragged into a mystery that could upend everything. Smart, biting, and unapologetically queer—perfect for fans of vampire boarding school drama.

Another book/series to add to this list is A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. It is the series I tend to reach for and re-read whenever I want a dose of vampires and supernatural happenings.
That’s a great suggestion! I haven’t read it yet but I didn’t know if it was more adult themed. I definitely need to read it though — I’ve heard great things about the TV show!
