An academic enemies-to-lovers YA with all the nerdy drama, high school antics, and heartpounding romance of the Netflix original series Never Have I Ever.
Since high school began, Alison Sanger and Ethan Molloy have competed on almost everything. AP classes, the school paper, community service, it never ends. If Alison could avoid Ethan until graduation, she would. Except, naturally, for two over-achieving seniors with their sights on valedictorian and Harvard, they share all the same classes and extracurriculars. So when their school’s principal assigns them the task of co-planning a previous class’s ten-year reunion, with the promise of a recommendation for Harvard if they do, Ethan and Alison are willing to endure one more activity together if it means beating the other out of the lead.
But with all this extra time spent in each other’s company, their rivalry begins to feel closer to friendship. And as tension between them builds, Alison fights the growing realization that the only thing she wants more than winning … is Ethan.
What’s Not to Love Review
I’m a HUGE fan of Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka. Not only are they wonderful authors who write great books, but they’re also two of the kindest people ever. I’ve been so excited to read their newest release and it’s just a fantastic read!
What’s Not to Love follows Alison and Ethan, two high school students who are rivals at everything academic. Their principal puts them in charge of planning a high school reunion and they soon realize that there is more to winning.
Alison and Ethan are incredible characters. They’re both bold, blunt and incredibly driven. While they are great charcters individually, the rival banter between them is the best. They can be combative with each other but this is usually because they think they know the move of the other person.
The plot of What’s Not to Love is so fun. Putting these two rivals together to plan a high school reunion is such a perfect premise. They have such strong opinions but they end up realizing that there is more to each other than they each thought. It’s certainly fun seeing it all play out.
What’s Not to Love is certainly one of the best enemies-to-lovers young adult books I’ve read. It’s full of fun moments, witty banter, and the constant need to one-up each other.
Overall, What’s Not to Love is one of Wibbroka’s best! My favourite book so far has been If I’m Being Honest and this one is right up there next to it.
If you love rivalry and entertaining characters, this is certainly the book for you! Also, if you haven’t read any of Wibbroka’s books yet, I highly recommend you do!
