Sarah J. Maas’s sexy, richly imagined Court of Thorns and Roses series continues with the journey of Feyre’s fiery sister, Nesta.
Nesta Archeron has always been prickly — proud, swift to anger and slow to forgive. And since the war — since being made High Fae against her will — she’s struggled to forget the horrors she endured and find a place for herself within the strange and deadly Night Court.
The person who ignites her temper more than any other is Cassian, the battle-scarred, winged warrior who is there at Nesta’s every turn. But her temper isn’t the only thing Cassian ignites. And when they are forced to train in battle together, sparks become flame.
As the threat of war casts its shadow over them once again, Nesta and Cassian must fight monsters from within and without if they are to stand a chance of halting the enemies of their court. But the ultimate risk will be searching for acceptance — and healing — in each other’s arms.
A Court of Silver Flames Review
A Court of Thorns and Roses is one of my all time favourite series. After hearing that Nesta would be getting her own series, I’ve been eagerly waiting for its release. Thankfully, Sarah J Maas didn’t let me down.
A Court of Silver Flames picks up after the events of A Court of Wings and Ruin. It follows Nesta, who is struggling with becoming a Fae as well as living in the Night Court. While trying to cope, the threat of war is once again a prospect, forcing Nesta to confront problems of the past, and of the present.
Nesta has always been an interesting character. She can be distant and blunt but she’s also extremely fiesty. While there is some background to Nesta, getting this new indepth look at her struggles and trauma really helps to understand her more.
I also really love that Sarah J Maas explores trauma and emotions in this book. Nesta is clearly reeling from the events of A Court of Wings and Ruin. I think that she does a great job of exploring these emotions while also showing Nesta’s growth throughout the course of the book.
Cassian has always been a favourite of mine. As a member of the Night Court he’s captivating, just like his friends. He’s loyal and brutally honest but he can also be cunning. It’s also so interesting to see the effect that he has on Nesta throughout the course of the book.
As always, Sarah J Maas creates a world that jumps through the pages. It’s so nice to be back inside the Night Court and while war is looming, there are still lovely moments to cherish. And while this story focuses on Nesta, we get to enjoy moments with all of our favourite characters — like Feyre, Rhys and Azriel.
The overall story is as enjoyable as all of her previous books. It’s full of action and now that the book is marketed towards an adult audience, it’s full of steamy romance. But, I do think the book has some pacing issues. As much as I enjoyed it, I don’t think it had to be over 700 pages long.
Overall, A Court of Silver Flames is a highly entertaining read that draws you in with each page. It’s full of loveable characters, action, adventure and high stakes. I’m definitely looking forward to picking up the next book in the series.
