The Cousins Review
This is my second Karen M McManus book, and I’m still really impressed with her mysteries! This one is my favourite so far.
The Cousins follows three cousins, Milly, Aubrey and Jonah. They each receive a letter from their Grandmother asking them to work at her resort for the summer. But, they don’t know their Grandmother and they don’t know each other. While visiting for the summer, they learn deep, dark secrets.
The characters in The Cousins are really enjoyable. While I enjoyed them all, I particularly enjoyed Milly. She’s sarcastic, bold and speaks her mind. Aubrey is a bit more reserved but I love her immediate bond with Milly. Jonah is certainly guarded but I definitely grew to enjoy his character throughout the book.
The mystery of The Cousins is also great. I found it to be more page-turning than One of Us is Lying. The more I read, the more secrets are revealed about the Story family but it’s still surprsing as the mystery unfolds.
Karen M McManus certainly has a knack for writing mysteries. Just like One of Us is Lying, she draws you deeper into the story with her writing. It flows well, connections are made and the conclusion is extremely satisfying.
Overall, The Cousins is a great young adult mystery that I highly recommend. It’s full of secrets, peculiar characters as well as family drama.
If you enjoy her other books, you’ll also like The Cousins. I also think it’s perfect for fans of Truly Devious!
