This is my second time reading a Katie McGarry book. While I enjoyed the first one more, this one is still good. Only a Breath Apart follows two childhood friends, Scarlett and Jesse. They’re both able to rekindle their friendship because of difficult moments in each of their lives. The book is definitely about acceptance, friendship as well as loyalty.
Forget You by Jennifer Echols
A few years ago, I read this book on my KOBO during a family vacation. Since I recently got a physical copy, I’ve been curious to see if I enjoy it as much the second time around. Forget You follows Zoey who is in a car crash and can’t remember exactly what happened. While she remembers being pulled from the car, there are a lot of things she tries to piece together.
What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera
Since I’m always on the hunt for great contemporary reads, What If It’s Us has been on my radar. Thankfully, I really enjoyed this book! What If It’s Us follows Arthur and Ben. After meeting at a post office in New York City, they quickly build a friendship over the course of a summer.
A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi
Once I heard about A Very Large Expanse of Sea at the HCC Frenzy Fall Preview, I knew I had to read it. I am so glad I did because I absolutely adore this book! A Very Large Expanse of Sea follows Shirin, a Muslim teenager who is navigating an insensitive world following the 9/11 attacks. She’s extremely guarded because of the comments and stares she gets, purely because of who she is. Then comes Ocean, and her whole world changes.
The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang
After hearing so much buzz about The Kiss Quotient, I knew I had to read it! I am so happy to say it totally lives up to the hype. It deserves all the stars! The Kiss Quotient follows Stella, an intelligent and wealthy econometrician who has Aspergers. Since dating makes her uncomfortable, she hires an escort to help teach her how to date!
Love and Luck by Jenna Evans Welch
When I read Love and Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch, I immediately loved the writing style and the book itself. Needless to say, as soon as I heard she was releasing another book, it quickly became an anticipated read for me. Unfortunately, I didn’t really love this book as much as the first one.
Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson
Another great book from the wonderful Morgan Matson. If you’ve been following my blog, you’ll know that I have been re-reading her books. This all started because of a recent opportunity I had to interview her and talk about her most recent book, Save the Date! I also had the chance to meet her recently at a local event.
Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson
In keeping with my recent obsession with Morgan Matson, I picked up another one of her books. I’m so glad I read Second Chance Summer, it’s such a heartfelt summer book. Second Chance Summer follows Taylor as she spends her summer in the Poconos with her family. After receiving life changing news, it’s the perfect opportunity to spend time with family and reunite with old friendships.
Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson
At the beginning of June, Morgan Matson visited Toronto to promote her newest book Save the Date. Afterwards, I quickly jumped into reading Morgan Matson’s backlist! Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour follows Amy as she takes her mother’s car from California to Connecticut. Since her father died in a car accident, she enlists her family friend Roger to drive with her.
Save the Date by Morgan Matson
Since I read The Unexpected Everything, I’ve been excited to pick up another book by Morgan Matson. While Save the Date is different from her previous book, I really enjoyed it! Save the Date follows Charlie and her family as they prepare for her sister’s wedding. Since the book takes place over the course of a weekend, everything seems to go wrong. Because of this, it’s a weekend filled with drama, chaos and dealing with change.
A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J Maas
After reading the A Court of Thorns and Roses series, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book. I love the world and characters so much, I needed more of them in my life! A Court of Frost and Starlight is a novella set after the events of A Court of Wings and Ruin. It also serves as a bridge to the next three books that will release in the coming years.
Stay Sweet by Siobhan Vivian
I’m always up for a super cute contemporary read with strong female characters. Thankfully, this book has all of those features and is an enjoyable read! Stay Sweet follows Amelia, who works at an ice cream stand exclusively run by girls in the summer. When the founder’s grandnephew shows up in town and tries to make some changes, Amelia stands up.
