After reading Warcross, I immediately jumped into reading Wildcard. It’s a fantastic end to an epic sci-fi duology. And in my opinion, is definitely better than the first. Wildcard picks up after the events of Warcross. It tells the story of Emika Chen who accidentally hacks into the opening ceremony of the Warcross championships.
Warcross by Marie Lu
Even though this book was sitting on my shelf for the longest time, it’s certainly worth the read. Warcross tells the story of Emika Chen, who accidentally hacks into the opening ceremony of the world famous Warcross championship. Because of this, she’s quickly swept away to Tokyo to work for Hideo Tanaka, the Warcross creator and spy during the games.
Sea Witch by Sarah Henning
Since I’m a big Disney fan, I’ve been looking forward to reading this book. While it is a retelling of The Little Mermaid, this book fell flat for me. The characters in this book are good. Although they’re not my favourite characters ever, I enjoyed them nonetheless. There are interesting aspects of antics and witty banter as well as a huge tone of friendship.
Emily Knight I Am Series by Abiola Bello
Since becoming a teacher, I’ve been trying to read more middle grade books. I’m particularly excited to find a fun and interesting fantasy series to recommend to my students! The Emily Knight I Am series focuses on Emily Knight as she tries to discover and cope with magical powers.
Crown of Midnight by Sarah J Maas
After reading and loving Throne of Glass, I’m happy I’ve finally read the sequel. It’s another really great book in the world of Sarah J Maas. The Throne of Glass series follows Celaena as she competes to become the King’s Champion. Because I’m avoiding spoilers, Crown of Midnight picks up right after the events of the first book and adds some extra mystery to the plot!
Legendary by Stephanie Garber
After reading Caraval last year, it quickly became my most favourite read of the year. Needless to say, I’ve eagerly been waiting for the release of Legendary and I’m so happy I loved it! Legendary picks up after the events of Caraval. Instead of following Scarlett, Legendary follows Tella and her experiences in this magical world.
Furyborn by Claire Legrand
While I tend to read more contemporary books, I do love a good fantasy book. Furyborn turns out to be a really epic and enjoyable fantasy! Furyborn follows two characters, Rielle and Eliana. Rielle must endure seven trials to prove that she is the Sun Queen. A thousand years later, Eliana is a bounty hunter and discovers more about the Empire than she bargains for.
To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo
After hearing about To Kill a Kingdom, I’ve eagerly awaited it’s release! I’m so happy that the book lived up to my expectations! To Kill a Kingdom follows Lira, a siren who collects the hearts of Prince’s. It also follows Elian, a Prince who happens to be a siren hunter. Loosely based on The Little Mermaid, the Sea Queen sends Lira to collect the heart of a Prince without the use of her siren voice.
A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J Maas
After reading the A Court of Thorns and Roses series, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book. I love the world and characters so much, I needed more of them in my life! A Court of Frost and Starlight is a novella set after the events of A Court of Wings and Ruin. It also serves as a bridge to the next three books that will release in the coming years.
City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
After reading The Mortal Instruments, I completely fell in love with Cassandra Clare. Since I read the series before blogging, I thought it was the perfect time for a re-read. I absolutely loved being back in the Shadowhunter world! City of Bones is the first book in The Mortal Instruments series. After witnessing a murder, Clary Fray discovers a secret world of people – Shadowhunters.
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
There is so much hype surrounding The Cruel Prince that I knew I needed to try it. But I don’t think I’ve ever been more conflicted about a book in my life! I honestly have so many questions running around in my head, and it’s crazy!
A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas
When I started this series, I didn’t know I was about to take a wild ride. I also didn’t know they would become some of my favourite books ever. The A Court of Thorns and Roses series follows Feyre who kills a wolf in the woods. After that, she’s taken to the land of faeries to atone for it. It’s an epic high-fantasy series that’s totally worth the hype!
