There’s nothing better than discovering brand new authors, especially if they have a long backlist to catch up with. Here are the top ten new to me authors I read in 2023 β and can’t wait to read from again!
While I do gravitate to authors I’ve already read from, I love to support debut authors and discover brand new to me authors. Whether it’s their first book or their twentieth, it’s always fun to discover new stories and characters.
On this list, you’ll find ten authors I discovered in 2023. There’s a great mix of established authors and debut authors on this list. I’m sure some of these authors are already loved by you β but maybe you’ll discover someone new too!
I can’t wait to read more from these authors, whether it’s through their new releases or catching up on their backlist titles.

New to Me Authors in 2023
Abby Jimenez. Abbey Jimenez’s books have been sitting on my shelf for years. I’ve been wanting to read her books for so long and I finally made them a priority! I’m so glad I did because I absolutely adored her books. I started with The Friend Zone and just couldn’t stop, so I ended up reading her entire backlist. Part of Your World was my absolute favourite and I can definitely see myself re-reading it in the future. I can’t wait for her next release this year!
Ava Wilder. I’ve been wanting to read How to Fake it in Hollywood for a while. Even though I didn’t love this book as much as I thought I would, I can see myself reading books by Ava Wilder in the future. I really enjoyed her writing and the overall story was good too! I think it was a solid book and I’m looking forward to reading more from her in the future.
Elle Cosimano. I’ve heard so many amazing things about the Finlay Donovan series. I’m so glad I finally gave this series a chance. It’s funny and entertaining β it keeps you turning each and every page! I enjoyed it so much, I quickly caught up in the series. I’m definitely looking forward to reading the fourth book when it releases this year.
Emma St. Clair. As soon as I heard about the Sweater Weather series on Kindle Unlimited, I knew I wanted to pick the books up. Just Don’t Fall was the first book in the standalone series and I’m so glad I read it because it was really adorable! It was a great story with swoon-worthy romance that had me smiling the whole way through. I really can’t read more of Emma St. Clair’s books this year!
Hannah Grace. I’ve heard so many people rave about the Maple Hills series. I don’t think I loved Icebreaker as much as everyone else did. But, I did enjoy it and am looking forward to continuing the series. I feel like Icebreaker was the perfect mix of sports with romance β and now I’m curious to read more sport related romance books!
Jessica Joyce. I absolutely adored Jessica Joyce’s debut novel. You, With a View was everything I wanted and more. Her writing was impeccable, the storyline was exactly what I needed and I loved the mixture of emotion and romance. I am so excited to read her next release this year and am hoping I love it as much as I loved You, with a View.
Jo Segura. Raiders of the Lost Heart was a really fun and entertaining debut. Since I absolutely love the Indiana Jones movies, I felt like this was the perfect mix of adventure and romance. While it wasn’t my favourite book ever, I think it was enjoyable and the writing was great too. I will definitely have Jo Segura on my radar for future books!
Lana Ferguson. The Nanny was a surprise for me. I thought I was going to enjoy it, but I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did. It was steamier than I expected but the overall story was easy to read and enjoyable. I already have her next releases on my TBR and I look forward to picking them up.
Olivia Dade. I’ve had Olivia Dade’s books on my TBR for years. I finally had a chance to pick up Spoiler Alert and I liked it! I thought the romance was sweet and the natural progression of their relationship was enjoyable. I’m excited to pick up the other books in the series sometime soon.
Rebecca Yarros. Is it a surprise that Rebecca Yarros is on my list? I have a feeling she’ll be on a lot of people’s lists this year! Fourth Wing lived up to the hype for me β I loved every single moment of it. The writing, the world-building, the romance, the action, it was all perfection. I didn’t love Iron Flame as much but it was still an epic read. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. I’ll also be checking out her backlist titles too!
