The publisher kindly provided me with a physical copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
A series of chance encounters leads to a sizzling new romance from the New York Times bestselling author of the On Dublin Street series.
The universe is conspiring against Ava Breevort. As if flying back to Phoenix to bury a childhood friend wasn’t hell enough, a cloud of volcanic ash traveling from overseas delayed her flight back home to Boston. Her last ditch attempt to salvage the trip was thwarted by an arrogant Scotsman, Caleb Scott, who steals a first class seat out from under her. Then over the course of their journey home, their antagonism somehow lands them in bed for the steamiest layover Ava’s ever had. And that’s all it was—until Caleb shows up on her doorstep.
When pure chance pulls Ava back into Caleb’s orbit, he proposes they enjoy their physical connection while he’s stranded in Boston. Ava agrees, knowing her heart’s in no danger since a) she barely likes Caleb and b) his existence in her life is temporary. Not long thereafter Ava realizes she’s made a terrible error because as it turns out Caleb Scott isn’t quite so unlikeable after all. When his stay in Boston becomes permanent, Ava must decide whether to fight her feelings for him or give into them. But even if she does decide to risk her heart on Caleb, there is no guarantee her stubborn Scot will want to risk his heart on her …
Fight or Flight Book Review
After hearing about this book and its enemies-to-lovers trope, I immediately added it to my list of books to read. While it’s an enjoyable story, it’s not a new favourite of mine.
Fight or Flight follows Ava, an interior designer who is flying back to Boston following a funeral. While at the airport, she runs into Caleb. Even though they’re initially attracted to each other, they quickly become enemies but the universe has different plans for them.
Ava is one of those main characters that I really enjoy but I also question. She’s incredibly successful in her career and I love that she’s built herself into a success. She’s strong and powerful (at times) and overall, I enjoyed her. But, I do question her decisions throughout the book.
While this is an enemies-to-lovers story, Caleb is just rude and mean. There are so many cringy, eye-roll moments in this book because of the things that Caleb says or does. I really question Ava’s acceptance of Caleb.
The overall plot of the book is good. While I had some issues with Caleb, it’s a solid enemies-to-lovers book with an enjoyable storyline. I did find myself wanting to know more, which is mostly because of Samantha Young’s writing and not neccesarily her characters.
Overall, I think it’s an interesting storyline that will work for many readers. Even though I didn’t love Caleb, I still think it’s a book worth picking up and I know that many will love it!
While it’s not a new-found favourite, I will definitely be picking up more of Samantha Young’s books in the future.
