When the new year starts, I always like making a list of books I want to read. This list features ten books I want to make a priority and hope to read in 2023.
I always love making bookish goals at the beginning of the year.
While I don’t always meet these goals, I like challenging myself. Most of the goals I make are because of reading challenges. I always like to read 50 books for the Goodreads Reading Challenge and I try to complete as many prompts for the Popsugar Reading Challenge as I can.
One of my biggest goals to complete this year is reading ten books I’ve had on my shelf for a while. In the past, I haven’t done so well with this challenge but I’m determined to be successful this year!
On this list you’ll find a mixture of backlist titles and some more recent books. Here’s hoping I can read them all before the end of the year!

10 Books I Want to Read in 2023
All My Rage by Sabaa Tahir. I absolutely love Sabaa Tahir — although, I still need to finish the last book in the An Ember in the Ashes series. As soon as I heard about her contemporary debut, I immediately added it to my list of books to read. I definitely want to make it a priority to read it sometime this year. I just know I’m going to love it.
Finlay Donovan is Killing It by Elle Cosimano. I’ve heard so many great things about the Finlay Donovan series. I’m always looking for cozy mystery books to read and I really hope I end up loving Finlay Donovan is Killing It as much as I think I will!
Four Aunties and a Wedding by Jesse Q Sutanto. I read Dial A for Aunties last year and loved it. While I wanted to get to the sequel last year, I didn’t. I’m so excited to read Four Aunties and a Wedding — I hope it’ll be just as fun and hilarious as the first book.
House of Sky and Breath by Sarah J Maas. I was lucky to get an advance copy of House of Earth and Blood when it released in 2020. I devoured it — I read it in three days, despite it being a really thick book. I’m really eager to read the sequel and will definitely be making it a priority for the summer months. But, I think I need to read the first book again so that I have the story fresh in my mind. We’ll see if I’m successful!
Romancing Mister Bridgerton by Julia Quinn. This book is no surprise, especially because it will be the focus of the next season of Bridgerton. I absolutely love Colin and Penelope so I’m really hoping I love their story. I hope to read this before the next season releases, which I expect will be sometime this year!
The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez. I still haven’t read a single Abby Jimenez book, which is shocking. I know I’m going to love her books and they’re just sitting on my shelves. This is the year for catching up on her books — especially because I really want to read Yours Truly when it releases!
The Girl the Sea Gave Back by Adrienne Young. I am such a big fan of Adrienne Young’s books. Since The Girl the Sea Gave Back is the only book of hers that I haven’t read yet, it’s high on my list to get to this year. I just love the worlds she creates and her writing in general so I’m excited to get to this one!
The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan. This is the only book I’m carrying over from my list last year. With the new Percy Jackson and the Olympians adaptation releasing on Disney+ (hopefully) this year, I need to catch up on the series. I’m hoping to get to the other books too, but we’ll start small and plan to read the sequel first.
These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong. This book has been on in my to be read pile for far too long. It’s time I make it a priority. I’ve heard so many great things about this book and Chloe Gong’s books in general. I’m really hoping it lives up to my expectations!
Two Can Keep a Secret by Karen M McManus. Karen M McManus is one of my favourite young adult mystery authors. While I haven’t read her most recent release, I’m caught up on her backlist — except for Two Can Keep a Secret. I’m hoping to buddy read this book with a friend this year, so I should finally get a chance to read it!

I loved House of Sky and Breath! If you like audiobooks, I highly recommend listening to book one (if you are planning to reread). That’s what I did and it helped so much to jog my memory. I see a couple on your list I need to read as well. Hope you enjoy them all!

Ah, so happy to hear that! I can’t wait to read it — I definitely plan on re-reading book one before, I need to remember everything that happened. I’ll definitely check out the audiobook! Thanks for the recommendation.

I hope we both enjoy it! Absolutely, I loved the first book so I know I’m going to enjoy the second one just as much!

I really like the idea of making a list of ten priority reads. When I revamped all my Goodreads shelves a couple years ago, I created a “Top 100 list” to focus my reading. Problem is, I keep deviating from it AND adding books to it, so it’s now like 150 titles long. Oops! I hope you enjoy all these.
Happy TTT!

It can get so overwhelming to fit everything we want to read in! I find 10 reads is manageable (although I haven’t done so well with it the past few years) but at least it’s a realistic number for me to get to, which makes it worthwhile for me!
