In the wise words of Taylor Swift, August slipped away into a moment in time. Now that the month is done, it’s time to share my August 2024 reading wrap up!
I can’t believe August is over and we’re in the month of September. I feel like time moves faster as we move closer to the end of the year!
As much as I enjoy the fall, I don’t think I’m quite ready to say goodbye to the warm summer weather. Especially since I’ve had such a wonderful summer full of memories at my cottage and with friends and family.
I had a great reading month in August! I managed to read seven books — four 2024 releases and three backlist titles. I’m really happy with my reading month, it was full of fantastic books and I’m excited to see what my September reading brings!

August 2024 Reading Wrap Up
Heartless Hunter by Kristen Ciccarelli. I haven’t read a really great fantasy in a while and Heartless Hunter really hit the spot for me! There’s something about books that feature witches and witch hunters that really get to me. I devoured every minute of this book and the ending has left me in desperate need for the next book. Needless to say, I’m eagerly waiting for the release of Rebel Witch and highly recommend picking this book up if you haven’t done so already!
Every Summer After by Carley Fortune. I’m ashamed to admit that it’s taken me years to finally pick up Carley Fortune’s debut. It also happens to be my first ever book by Carley Fortune! My goodness, I think I discovered my new all-time favourite book. I feel like Every Summer After will stick with me for a long time. It was everything I needed and more! The romance was swoon-worthy, the cottage setting was perfect for my cottage loving heart and the writing was impeccable. I can’t wait to see this one adapted for the big screen and I’m already counting down the days until I can re-read it!
Meet Me at the Lake by Carley Fortune. Immediately after finishing Every Summer After, I jumped into Meet Me at the Lake. I loved this one as well, but maybe not quite as much as her first book. Even though I’m familiar with Muskoka, since my family cottage is there, Carley Fortune creates such vivid descriptions that you can’t help but feel like you’re really with the characters.
This Summer Will Be Different by Carley Fortune. Since I picked up her other two books, I needed to read Carley Fortune’s newest release. I absolutely adored the Prince Edward Island setting and now it makes me want to visit again! Just like her other books, the characters draw you in, the romance has you wanting more and the plot is satisfying. I can’t wait to read One Golden Summer when it releases next year!
The Host by Stephenie Meyer. While at the cottage, I found my old copy of The Host and I decided to do a re-read. I absolutely loved this book when I read it in high school and in my opinion, I think it’s so much better than the Twilight books. I’m really happy to report that this one held up for me! I don’t think I loved it as much as I did in high school. But, it was still as enjoyable as I remember! I think I’ll re-watch the movie at some point too, but we’ll see!
Haunted Ever After by Jen DeLuca. I really loved Jen DeLuca’s Well Met series and I’ve been curious about her new release. Haunted Ever After was enjoyable but not a new favourite for me. I liked the magical realism and the characters are great too. But, I feel like I was missing some of the fun witty banter we got in her previous books. I also just felt like the romance was fine, but it needed something more. I definitely plan on picking up the next book in the series because I enjoy her writing and the potential to love the next book is there!
Beachy Keen by Kasey Stockton. To end off the month, I decided to pick up the next book in the Falling for Summer series. Beachy Keen is a really cute, lighthearted billionaire rom-com and I enjoyed every minute of it! Sometimes all you need is a light and fluffy romance with adorable characters and a perfect happily ever after.
