A Wicked Magic is the perfect choice if you’re a fan of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. After a spell goes wrong, the friendship between two witches dies along with it. When the chance to fix the magical disaster means that the two friends have to work together, they discover a world of secrets. It’s a great option if you’re looking for a book full of atmosphere and mystery.
Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor
Akata Witch follows Sunny, a young girl who is sensitive to the sun. When she meets a new group of friends, they form the youngest ever coven and work to track down the Black Hat Otokoto, which is responsible for kidnapping and maiming children. It’s a great start to a fantasy series with powerful characters, a magical world and an intriguing story.

All Our Hidden Gifts is the first book in a fantasy series that will certainly get you in the mood for spooky season! The series follows Maeve, who finds a package of tarot cards and becomes a sought after diviner at her school. Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco
Kingdom of the Wicked is such a captivating and thrilling fantasy series featuring witches that you need to pick up. It also happens to be one of my favourites on this list. When Emilia discovers that her twin sister has been murdered, she seeks to find her sister’s killer and enact revenge. Along with the help of Wrath, one of the Princes of Hell, she discovers that nothing is what it seems. It’s full of swoon-worthy romance and action packed fantasy that will leave you wanting more.

It follows Evie, who is devastated when her best friend Anna drowns and is cast out of her small fishing town. Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin
Serpent & Dove is another one of my favourite books on this list. I still remember reading it for the very first time and the rest of the series is just as good. It follows Louise, who flees her coven and tries to avoid the witch hunters. When a chance encounter turns into an opportunity for a marriage of convenience, Lou must hide who she is — because Reid is a witch hunter. If you love the marriage of convenience trope, then this is the book for you.
Spells for Lost Things by Jenna Evans Welch
If you’re looking for a contemporary option, then this is the book for you. Spells for Lost Things follows Willow, who goes to Salem to wrap up the affairs of an aunt she didn’t know existed. While there, she meets Mason and they work together to discover the scret past of her mother and aunt. It’s a sweet contemporary romance with minimal witchy vibes and a great spooky setting.
Spells Trouble by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast
P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast are great at creating addicting paranormal stories. Spells Trouble follows Hunter and Mercy, twin witches who are learning to protect the Gates to different underworlds. When their mother. is the victim of a string of murders, they work together to avenge her death. It’s full of magic, sisterhood and a compelling plot.
Sweet & Bitter Magic by Adrienne Tooley
Sweet & Bitter Magic is a fantasy that follows Tamsin, a witch cursed to never love. The only way she can get those feelings is to steal love from others. It also follows Wren, who is made of magic but cannot wield it. When a magical plague threathens the queendom, Wren proposes that they team up to defeat the plague and in return, she’ll give Tamsin her love for her father. It’s a standalone fantasy with magic and queer characters.
The Babysitters Coven by Kate Williams
The Babysitters Coven is another fantasy series featuring witchcraft. It’s pitched as a mixture. of Adventures in Babysitting and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It follows a coven of witchy babysitters who try to protect the innocent from a world of evil. It’s a great action-packed series to get you in the Halloween mood.
The Charmed List by Julie Abe
The Charmed List is another one of my favourites on this list of witch books. It follows Ellie, who makes an anti-wallflower list which includes one important prompt: revenge on Jack. When her revenge goes wrong, she finds herself stuck on a road trip with Jack on their way to a magical convention. But, it’s possibly the best thing to ever happen to her. It’s the perfect contemporary romance to read during the fall season!
The Mermaid, the Witch and the Sea by Maggie Tokuda-Hall
The Mermaid, the Witch and the Sea is the perfect option if you’re in the mood for a great fantasy with some witchy vibes. It follows Flora, an orphan who takes on the identity of a man and works as a pirate. While on board, Flora meets Evelyn and they discover a deep bond. This leads to an action-packed plot that features a mermaid, a witch, and the mysterious Pirate Supreme.
The Midnight Girls by Alicia Jasinska
The Midnight Girls is a great standalone option featuring witches, queer characters and romance. It follows two enchantresses who are competing for the herat of a prince but discover that they may be falling for each other.
The Nature of Witches by Rachel Griffin
It wouldn’t be a true young adult witch book list without another one of Rachel Griffin’s books on the list! The Nature of Witches follows Clara, whose rare magic is tied to the seasons. Each season she must deal with her powers and everything that is happening around her. It has some Practical Magic vibes and also has the most gorgeous hardcover design I’ve ever seen.
The Ravens by Kass Morgan and Danielle Paige
The Ravens follows the Kappa Rho Nu society — which also happens to be a secret coven of witches. Vivi wants to join for a fresh start and Scarlett wants to live up to. hermother’s legacy. When Vivi and Scarlett are paired for initiation, they find a world of sabotage and betrayals.
The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw
The Wicked Deep is a great atmospheric choice with Hocus Pocus and Practical Magic vibes. When three sisters are sentened to death for witchery two centuries ago, they end up returning each summer to steal the bodies of three girls to enact revenge. It’s full of secrets, mystery and witchcraft.
The Witch and the Vampire by Francesca Flores
While witches are perfect for this time of year, there’s nothing better than witches and vampires. The Witch and the Vampire is a queer Rapunzel retelling that you’ll definitely want to pick up. It’s full of powerful witches, enticing vampires and mystery.
The Witch Haven by Sasha Peyton Smith
The Witch Haven is the first book in a fantasy duology. It follows Frances, a teen in the early 1900s who discovers that she has magical powers. When her newfound powers attract the leader of an ancient group wanting magical control, she’s forced into a battle she didn’t expect.
The Witch King by H.E. Edgmon
The Witch King is another great fantasy duology on this list. It follows Wyatt, a trans witch who is dealing with the fallout of a night when he lost control of his magic. When his royal fiance walks back into his life, they must work together to keep the throne safe. It’s full of action, queer characters and will leave you wanting to read the sequel immediately.
The Witchery by S Isabelle
The Witchery follows Logan, a young witch who joins Mesmortes Coven Academy. While there, she befriends the Red Three, a group of witches with diverse powers. They work together to break the town’s curse, but it might come at a greater cost. Once you’re finished, you’ll definitely want to pick up the sequel, Shadow Coven.
These Witches Don’t Burn by Isabel Sterling
These Witches Don’t Burn follows Hannah, a secretive Elemental Witch in Salem. When there’s evidence of dark magic in Salem, she works together with her ex, Veronica, to save her coven and protect the town. This one is so entertaining, you’ll definitely want to continue the series.
Toil & Trouble: 15 Tales of Women & Witchcraft by Jessica Spotswood and Tess Sharpe
Anthlogies are a great way to read some witchy stories this season and Toil & Trouble is the perfect option. This anthology features 15 stories across different genres that share stories of witchy heorines. If you’re looking for stories about Glinda the Good Witch, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and every other witch in between, this is the book you need to pick up.

Wild is the Witch by Rachel Griffin
Wild is the Witch is the third Rachel Griffin book on the list — she really creates such wonderful witchy stories. It follows Iris, a young witch who accidentally creates a curse that can turn everyone in her region into witches. When she tries to break the curse, she risks everything and ends up working with Pike, who hates witches.
Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw
