Stacey is jolted when her friends Simon and Emily get engaged. She knew she was putting her life on hold when she stayed in Willow Creek to care for her sick mother, but it’s been years now, and even though Stacey loves spending her summers pouring drinks and flirting with patrons at the local Renaissance Faire, she wants more out of life. Stacey vows to have her life figured out by the time her friends get hitched at Faire next summer. Maybe she’ll even find The One.
When Stacey imagined “The One,” it never occurred to her that her summertime Faire fling, Dex MacLean, might fit the bill. While Dex is easy on the eyes onstage with his band The Dueling Kilts, Stacey has never felt an emotional connection with him. So when she receives a tender email from the typically monosyllabic hunk, she’s not sure what to make of it.
Faire returns to Willow Creek, and Stacey comes face-to-face with the man with whom she’s exchanged hundreds of online messages over the past nine months. To Stacey’s shock, it isn’t Dex — she’s been falling in love with a man she barely knows.
Another laugh-out-loud romantic comedy featuring kilted musicians, Renaissance Faire tavern wenches, and an unlikely love story.
Well Played Review
After reading Well Met, I quickly fell in love with the writing, the character and the overall theme. I loved it so much that I read it twice.
As soon as Well Played released, I immediately jumped into reading it. While I still love the writing, the renaissance theme and the characters, I didn’t love this one as much as Well Met.
Well Played follows Stacey who is wanting to experience more in life after Simon and Emily’s engagement. She starts an e-mail exchange with a Faire fling but is shocked when it turns out to be someone else.
I loved Stacey in Well Met and I love her even more in this sequel. She’s so sweet and caring and you can’t help but love her. It also leaves you rooting for her the whole book — wishing for her happily ever after.
The plot is also great! One of the reasons I love this series is because of the Renaissance faire. It’s such a unique and fun aspect of this series that I really enjoy. There’s moments of humour but there’s also a deep love for tradition in the town that’s endearing.
The only reason I didn’t love this book as much as Well Met is because the romance felt a little underwhelming to me. I personally preferred Emily and Simon’s relationship and felt like it had a bit more chemistry.
While I definitely was rooting for Stacey, I wanted a bit more out of her relationship. And sometimes, the chemistry just didn’t feel right for me.
Overall, Well Played is a solid sequel! It’s so entertaining and really is the perfect lighthearted romance. I can’t wait to pick up Well Matched when it releases later this year!

REALLY (really) want to read these books. They look so fun, but at this point, I’ve probably hyped them so much that they’ll fall flat. 😉 Hoping they are still good! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the sequel. 🙂
