All’s faire in love and war for two sworn enemies who indulge in a harmless flirtation in a laugh-out-loud rom-com from debut author, Jen DeLuca.
Emily knew there would be strings attached when she relocated to the small town of Willow Creek, Maryland, for the summer to help her sister recover from an accident, but who could anticipate getting roped into volunteering for the local Renaissance Faire alongside her teenaged niece? Or that the irritating and inscrutable schoolteacher in charge of the volunteers would be so annoying that she finds it impossible to stop thinking about him?
The faire is Simon’s family legacy and from the start he makes clear he doesn’t have time for Emily’s lighthearted approach to life, her oddball Shakespeare conspiracy theories, or her endless suggestions for new acts to shake things up. Yet on the faire grounds he becomes a different person, flirting freely with Emily when she’s in her revealing wench’s costume. But is this attraction real, or just part of the characters they’re portraying?
This summer was only ever supposed to be a pit stop on the way to somewhere else for Emily, but soon she can’t seem to shake the fantasy of establishing something more with Simon, or a permanent home of her own in Willow Creek.
Well Met Review
If you’ve been following along for a while, you’ll know that I’ve really started to enjoy reading romance. Well Met is definitely one of my favourite romance books I’ve read so far.
Well Met follows Emily, who moves to a new town to help her sister recover from a car accident. She decides to volunteer at the local Renaissance Faire with her niece and finds herself butting heads with the organizer, Simon.
I absolutely adored all the characters in this book. Emily is such a wonderful main character, especially with her bubbly personality. I also really love her friendship with Chris and Stacey. It gives me Gilmore Girls vibes with the small town feel and the connection between characters.
I also really enjoyed Simon’s character. He’s guarded and certainly a bit rough around the edges. But the chemistry between him and Emily jumps off the pages. You can’t help but root for the Pirate and the Wench.
The overall plot of Well Met is just so enjoyable. It has a great flow as well as a great pace. And it’s just so humourous! It was so funny that I ended up reading this book twice.
While the characters, the writing and the plot are great, my favourite thing is the Reniassance backdrop. It’s just so enjoyable!! I loved the experiences Emily has and the love this town has for tradition. It’s a unique premise and one I’m so glad to have experienced.
Overall, Well Met is a fantastic romantic comedy. If you’re looking for something lighthearted and romantic, than this is certainly the book for you!
