Princess Lira is siren royalty and the most lethal of them all. With the hearts of seventeen princes in her collection, she is revered across the sea. Until a twist of fate forces her to kill one of her own. To punish her daughter, the Sea Queen transforms Lira into the one thing they loathe most — a human. Robbed of her song, Lira has until the winter solstice to deliver Prince Elian’s heart to the Sea Queen or remain a human forever.
The ocean is the only place Prince Elian calls home, even though he is heir to the most powerful kingdom in the world. Hunting sirens is more than an unsavory hobby — it’s his calling. When he rescues a drowning woman in the ocean, she’s more than what she appears. She promises to help him find the key to destroying all of sirenkind for good — But can he trust her? And just how many deals will Elian have to barter to eliminate mankind’s greatest enemy?
To Kill a Kingdom Review
After hearing about To Kill a Kingdom, I’ve eagerly awaited it’s release! I’m so happy that the book lived up to my expectations!
To Kill a Kingdom follows Lira, a siren who collects the hearts of Prince’s. It also follows Elian, a Prince who happens to be a siren hunter. Loosely based on The Little Mermaid, the Sea Queen sends Lira to collect the heart of a Prince without the use of her siren voice.
I really, really love the characters in this book. Lira and Elian are so uniquely different but they blend so well together. I love that they both have their own storylines but also become increasingly intertwined throughout the book.
Lira is an enchanting, devious and loyal main character. She’s raised to be cunning and mischevious. But, I love how her personality shifts throughout the book. She really does have an awesome character arc!
On the other hand, Elian is a really strong character. He finds being a Prince and loving the sea is conflicting. I think it’s a really interesting aspect to his character – and one I enjoyed reading about.
Another thing I enjoyed in this book is the dual perspectives. The story is enjoyable from both of these characters perspectives, which is great. I was equally invested in each character’s experiences!
This retelling is definitely dark, which makes it so captivating. It’s a great spin on the classic story of The Little Mermaid. While dark and twisted, it’s also suspenseful and action packed. It’s a great mix that will captivate you the whole way through!
Overall, To Kill a Kingdom is a really enjoyable stand-alone fantasy book. With adventure and thrill, it’s definitely a book I would recommend!

Technically, I’m a murderer, but I like to think that’s one of my better qualities.
