The publisher kindly sent me a physical copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Critically acclaimed author Mia Sosa delivers a sassy, steamy enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy about a woman whose new job requires her to work side-by-side with the best man who ruined her wedding: her ex-fiancΓ©’s infuriating, irritating, annoyingly handsome brother. Perfect for fans of Jasmine Guillory, Helen Hoang, and Sally Thorne!
A wedding planner left at the altar. Yeah, the irony isnβt lost on Carolina Santos, either. But despite that embarrassing blip from her past, Linaβs managed to make other peopleβs dreams come true as a top-tier wedding coordinator in DC. After impressing an influential guest, sheβs offered an opportunity that could change her life. Thereβs just one hitch … she has to collaborate with the best (make that worst) man from her own failed nuptials.
Tired of living in his older brotherβs shadow, marketing expert Max Hartley is determined to make his mark with a coveted hotel client looking to expand its brand. Then he learns heβll be working with his brotherβs whip-smart, stunning β absolutely off-limits β ex-fiancΓ©e. And she loathes him.
If they can survive the next few weeks and nail their presentation without killing each other, theyβll both come out ahead. Except Max has been public enemy number one ever since he encouraged his brother to jilt the bride, and Linaβs ready to dish out a little payback of her own.
But even the best laid plans can go awry, and soon Lina and Max discover animosity may not be the only emotion creating sparks between them. Still, this star-crossed couple can never be more than temporary playmates because Lina isnβt interested in falling in love and Max refuses to play runner-up to his brother ever again …
The Worst Best Man Review
In the past year, I’ve quickly fallen in love with adult rom-coms. After hearing about The Worst Best Man, I added it to my list of books to read.
The Worst Best Man follows Lina, a wedding planner whose fiance leaves her at the altar. Three years later, she’s interviewing for the job of her dreams. But, she has to work with her ex and his brother, Max to get the job.
Lina is an enjoyable main character. It’s interesting to see a wedding planner who isn’t excited about love. Because of this, it’s a fun experience watching her change her opinions.
Max is also an enjoyable character. He is clearly the opposite of his brother, which is why he compliments Lina so much. His competitive nature with his brother really drives a lot of his life. It’s good to see the growth in his character throughout the book.
I really enjoyed the side characters in this book. The banter Lina has with her family members, especially her aunt are fun to read. Her friendships with Jaslene and Natalia are great as well. I love great friendships – especially in rom-coms.
While the characters are enjoyable, the plot is just so-so for me. These characters reconnect, work on their job pitch, and fall for each other over the span of 5 weeks. It doesn’t feel rushed and it doesn’t seem impossible, it just didn’t wow me.
There certainly is chemistry between Lina and Max. And let me tell you, there are a ton of steamy moments in this book. But at times, they seemed a bit awkard together. While this is probably because of the shared connection of Max’s brother Andrew, it’s still awkward.
One thing I truly did love about this book is Mia Sosa’s writing. She writes really well – it’s expressive and full of detail. I also love the incorporation of Brazilian traditions and foods. It really adds something to the entire book.
Overall, The Worst Best Man is an enjoyable book. While it’s not the best rom-com I’ve read, I would still recommend it.
But, Mia Sosa’s writing is enough to entice me to read more of her books. And I definitely will pick up The Wedding Crasher when it releases next year!
