The publisher kindly sent me a physical copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
When a letter from her uncle Henrik arrives on Bryn Roth’s eighteenth birthday, summoning her back to Bastian, Bryn is eager to prove herself and finally take her place in her long-lost family.
Henrik has plans for Bryn, but she must win everyone’s trust if she wants to hold any power in the delicate architecture of the family. It doesn’t take long for her to see that the Roths are entangled in shadows. Despite their growing influence in upscale Bastian, their hands are still in the kind of dirty business that got Bryn’s parents killed years ago. With a forbidden romance to contend with and dangerous work ahead, the cost of being accepted into the Roths may be more than Bryn can pay.
New York Times bestselling author Adrienne Young returns with The Last Legacy, a captivating standalone about family and blood ties, reinventing yourself, and controlling your own destiny.
The Last Legacy Review
After absolutely loving Fable and Namesake, I spent a lot of time eagerly waiting for the release of The Last Legacy. This book is so good and will leave you desperately wanting more.
The Last Legacy follows Brynn, who goes to live with her Uncle on her eighteenth birthday. Once there, they bring her into the family business, which leads to power struggles, deception and forbidden romance.
Brynn is a wonderful main character. Adrienne Young does a fantastic job at creating strong female characters that not only drive the main story, but also make you want to be like them. She’s bold and driven but she’s also cunning and wise — which makes her the perfect Roth.
The Roth family is so magnetic. We get a brief introduction to them in Namesake. But delving deeper into their world in The Last Legacy is addicting. They’re mysterious, cunning and full of schemes. They draw Brynn in because of their personalities, which feels the same for the reader.
One thing I love about Adrienne Young’s books are how descriptive and detailed they are. She creates characters and worlds that immediately suck you in. The Last Legacy is no different — you desperately want more because of how enjoyable the story is.
Ezra is another enjoyable character in this book. I really like that we get to see more of his life outside of Namesake. He’s extremely captivating to Brynn, and it is fun to see their relationship grow throughout the book.
While there is romance in this book, I love the book more for its in depth-look at the family dynamics of the Roth’s. The way the Roth’s have a hold on the town, and over people, is so interesting. I’m so glad Adrienne Young decided to explore this family more with this book.
Overall, The Last Legacy is a fantastic book. It’s full of adventure, mystery and romance that will constantly draw you in. I will always pick up books by Adrienne Young — I can’t wait to see what she has in store next.
If you haven’t picked up The Last Legacy or the Fable duology yet, I highly recommend them all!
