After reading Furyborn last year, I’ve been patiently waiting for Kingsbane! There are so many questions that need answers! I’m so happy with this sequel! I absolutely love the characters in this series. I love the fact that Rielle and Eliana are such strong, driven female characters.
The Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra Clare and Wesley Chu
Cassandra Clare does it again! The Red Scrolls of Magic is now one of my favourite books in the Shadowhunter world! The Red Scrolls of Magic follows Magnus and Alec as they travel Europe following the events of The Mortal Instruments. However, after finding out Magnus started a cult as a joke years ago, they try and stop it.
Thomas Wildus and the Book of Sorrows by J.M Bergen
Thomas Wildus and the Book of Sorrows is such a really fun middle grade fantasy. It certainly gives me some modern day Harry Potter vibes! Thomas Wildus and the Book of Sorrows follows 12 year old Thomas. After kung-fu practice he is introduced to a magical book called the Book of Sorrows.
Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare
All good things must come to an end. Queen of Air and Darkness is such a fantastic conclusion to another Shadowhunter series! Queen of Air and Darkness picks up right after the events of Lord of Shadows. The series follows Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn as they try and solve another mystery inside the Shadowhunter world.
Courting Darkness by Robin LaFevers Blog Tour
Courting Darkness is unlike anything I’ve ever read before, but I really liked it! Courting Darkness follows two characters, Sybella and Genevieve. While Sybella accompanies the duchess to France as she marries the French King, we also see Genevieve as she spies on the French court.
King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard
The Red Queen series has been a hit or miss for me. I really loved Red Queen but Glass Sword was a little underwhelming for me. Thankfully, I really enjoyed King’s Cage! King’s Cage picks up after the events of Glass Sword. There’s more politics, fighting and training. There’s also a lot of set up for the final book!
Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody
After hearing about Ace of Shades, I’ve been excited to read it. I really thought it was going to be a book I love. While it was an enjoyable read, it’s definitely not a favourite. Ace of Shades follows Enne Salta as she travels to New Reynes, also known as the City of Sin, to find her mother. During this trip, she’s introduced to gangs, casinos and clues to a mysterious story she’s about to uncover.
The Wicked King by Holly Black
Last year, my cousin Maddie read The Cruel Prince and quickly recommended it to me. It was a conflicting read for me but I was inspired to continue. I’m so happy that I enjoyed The Wicked King much more than the first book!
Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare
After reading most of Cassandra Clare’s books, I always question whether a new one will be as good as the last. But once again, she’s written an incredible book. Lord of Shadows picks up right after the events of Lady Midnight. The series follows Emma, Julian and the rest of the Blackthorns as they investigate mysterious murders.
Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas
I have quickly become a Sarah J Maas fan! Her writing and the worlds she creates are just so engrossing. Unfortunately, this one just fell so flat for me. Heir of Fire is the third book in the Throne of Glass series. It follows Celeana Sardothien as she competes to become the King’s Champion and personal assassin.
An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
I have heard about An Ember in the Ashes for years, and finally decided to pick it up. Boy, I’m so glad I did. This book is incredible! An Ember in the Ashes follows Laia, a slave who tries to free her brother after the Empire arrests him. Because of this, she works as a spy for some rebels at the Empire’s military academy.
Grim Lovelies by Megan Shepherd Blog Tour
Grim Lovelies follows Anouk, a maid who works for an evil witch that transformed her from animal to human. Following the death of the evil witch, Anouk travels around Paris for a spell that will keep her and her other ‘beastie’ friends human. I really enjoyed the characters in this book. While Anouk sometimes seemed childish, she’s blinded by the world the witch, Mada Vittoria, has given her.
