The publisher provided me with a digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
A steamy new rom-com about a starchy professor and the bubbly neighbor he clashes with at every turn …
Hallie Welch fell hard for Julian Vos at fourteen, after they almost kissed in the dark vineyards of his family’s winery. Now the prodigal hottie has returned to their small town. When Hallie is hired to revamp the gardens on the Vos estate, she wonders if she’ll finally get that smooch. But the grumpy professor isn’t the teenager she remembers and their polar opposite personalities clash spectacularly. One wine-fueled girls’ night later, Hallie can’t shake the sense that she did something reckless—and then she remembers the drunken secret admirer letter she left for Julian. Oh shit.
On sabbatical from his ivy league job, Julian plans to write a novel. But having Hallie gardening right outside his window is the ultimate distraction. She’s eccentric, chronically late, often literally covered in dirt — and so unbelievably beautiful, he can’t focus on anything else. Until he finds an anonymous letter sent by a woman from his past. Even as Julian wonders about this admirer, he’s sucked further into Hallie’s orbit. Like the flowers she plants all over town, Hallie is a burst of color in Julian’s gray-scale life. For a man who irons his socks and runs on tight schedules, her sunny chaotic energy makes zero sense. But there’s something so familiar about her … and her very presence is turning his world upside down.
Secretly Yours Book Review
When Tessa Bailey releases a new book, I’m always excited to read it! Secretly Yours is another great rom-com from Tessa. While it’s not my absolute favourite, it’s still a fun and enjoyable book that I would recommend!
Secretly Yours is the first in a new romantic comedy duology. It follows Hallie, who falls in love with Julian at the age of fourteen after an almost kiss. When Julian returns to town, Hallie is hired to redo the gardens at his family’s estate and she’s determined to get the kiss she wanted at fourteen.
One of the things I love about Tessa Bailey’s romance books are her characters. Hallie and Julian are both really enjoyable main characters. I loved Hallie’s bubbly and quirky personality. She’s so much fun and I loved seeing her character grow throughout the book.
Julian is a sweet romantic interest. The chemistry between Julian and Hallie is really natural and I liked that Hallie is able to successfully redeem her teenage romance. It also has Tessa’s signature swoon-worthy and steamy moments.
One of my favourite things about Secretly Yours is the setting. The vineyard and the Napa Valley is just such a charming setting. I also loved the small town that Hallie has such a strong connection to — from her friend’s chocolate shop to the sweet wine store, it totally reminds me of a Hallmark movie.
Overall, Secretly Yours is charming and really enjoyable. While It Happened One Summer is still my favourite of her books, I think this one was fun. I can’t wait to see how Natalie’s story continues when Unfortunately Yours releases!
If you’re looking for a light-hearted rom-com with some steamy romance, this is the book for you!
