Thou shalt kill.
A world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery. Humanity has conquered all those things, and has even conquered death. Now scythes are the only ones who can end life — and they are commanded to do so, in order to keep the size of the population under control.
Citra and Rowan are chosen to apprentice to a scythe—a role that neither wants. These teens must master the “art” of taking life, knowing that the consequence of failure could mean losing their own.
Scythe Review
I’ve heard so many wonderful things about Neal Shusterman books. It’s taken me a long time to finally pick one up but I’m glad I finally did.
Scythe follows two characters, Citra and Rowan as they become Scythe apprentices in a dystopian world.
I really like both Citra and Rowan. They’re both characters that are strong individually, but are unbreakable together. They’re desire to be there for each other is really heartwarming. I enjoyed watching their relationship unfold throughout the length of the book.
While Scythe Farraday and Scythe Currie are minor characters, I actually really love them. I think they both contribute so much to the story. I also really enjoyed the insight we get from their gleaning journals at the end of each chapter.
While this is my first book by Neal Shusterman I can honestly say it won’t be my last. Not only is his writing phenomenal but he leaves you desperately wanting more. Even though I enjoyed the overall story of Scythe, I preferred Neal Shusterman’s writing in the end.
The only thing I struggled with in this book is the pacing. I think this is because of the lack of action at times. I think I expected there to be more action in this book then there actually is.
Overall, Scythe is a really unique and enjoyable story. The characters and writing are fantastic and definitely make me want to continue with the series. I’m certainly glad I’ve finally read one of Neal Shusterman’s books!

This book is definitely not for me, I’m not interestef to the political issue at all, tha pacce is all over the place, and a lot of plot holes, and I think the characters are boring 😂 But I love the worldbuilding though!

Yeah, it wasn’t a favourite of mine. I can see your points for sure! I agree about the worldbuilding – Shusterman is quite good at that, I must admit!
