Bound as one to love, honor, or burn.
Two years ago, Louise le Blanc fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal. There, witches like Lou are hunted. They are feared. And they are burned.
Sworn to the Church as a Chasseur, Reid Diggory has lived his life by one principle: thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. His path was never meant to cross with Lou’s, but a wicked stunt forces them into an impossible union—holy matrimony.
The war between witches and Church is an ancient one, and Lou’s most dangerous enemies bring a fate worse than fire. Unable to ignore her growing feelings, yet powerless to change what she is, a choice must be made.
And love makes fools of us all.
Serpent and Dove Review
Serpent and Dove is such a great debut! After hearing about it at the Frenzy Presents event in August, I immediately pre-ordered it! And I’m so, so glad I did!
Serpent and Dove follows Lou, a witch hiding from both her coven and the town’s witch hunters — The Chasseurs. It also follows Reid, a witch hunter who hunts and kills witches, with no questions asked.
The charcters in this book are just incredible. I absolutely love Lou and she has certainly become one of my all-time favourite characters. She’s bold, opinionated and so incredibly sassy. She protects herself at all costs and doesn’t take no for an answer.
I also absolutely adore Reid. He’s a witch hunter who has a goal to act fast and think later. His character arc is exceptional. He battles himself and others, but he ultimately becomes his true self and struggles with this fact.
The banter between these two characters is so great and constantly leaves you turning the page. But in all honesty, Lou’s interactions with every character in this book is the best. Coco is fantastic and my heart will always love Ansel.
The overall plot of Serpent and Dove is really enjoyable! It has a great pace, a wonderful French setting and unfolds in such a realistic way. There are constant twists and turns that certainly leave you wanting more. I seriously cannot wait for book two!
Overall, I think Serpent and Dove is a fantastic debut novel. It’s very comparable to Sarah J Maas – particularly because of its sassy and independent main character. But in the end, it’s just a fantastic book with a great storyline!
I highly recommend checking out Serpent and Dove if you haven’t already! It has witches as well as sizzing romance and chemistry. Who doesn’t want to read a book like that?

About the Author
Shelby Mahurin grew up on a small farm in rural Indiana, where sticks became wands and cows became dragons. Her rampant imagination didn’t fade with age so she continues to play make-believe every day — with words now instead of cows. When not writing, Shelby watches the Office and obsesses over her Twitter feed. She still lives near that childhood farm with her very tall husband, semi-feral toddlers, two dogs, and one cat.

I loved this book. Such a good October read with all the witches and stuff. Plus, the juicy romance leaves you on the edge of your seat wanting more. It is such a page turner with every chapter leaving you with just the smallest urge to continue reading even when it 5 o’clock in the morning and you have to get up early. I can’t wait for a sequel. Nice review by the way; very straight forward and very little redundancy 😉
