Everyone Celaena Sardothien loves has been taken from her. But she’s at last returned to the empire — for vengeance, to rescue her once-glorious kingdom, and to confront the shadows of her past …
She has embraced her identity as Aelin Galathynius, Queen of Terrasen. But before she can reclaim her throne, she must fight.
She will fight for her cousin, a warrior prepared to die for her. She will fight for her friend, a young man trapped in an unspeakable prison. And she will fight for her people, enslaved to a brutal king and awaiting their lost queen’s triumphant return.
The fourth volume in the New York Times bestselling series continues Celaena’s epic journey and builds to a passionate, agonizing crescendo that might just shatter her world.
Queen of Shadows Review
While I’ve been enjoying the Throne of Glass series, this book is definitely my favourite. Queen of Shadows takes the series to another level and one I’m quite excited to see continue!
Queen of Shadows picks up after the events of Heir of Fire. The series follows Celaena Sardothien as she competes to become the King’s Champion and his personal assassin. It also follows the aftermath and what comes with the position.
I absolutely adored this book. In my opinion, the plot, the writing and the characters all bring this series to another level in this book. There’s moments of high suspense and the characters are also becoming more flushed out.
While I didn’t love Manon and Abraxos’ storyline in Heir of Fire, my feelings of them completely changed. I really enjoyed every minute of their story in this book and am so excited to see how things continue for them.
Caelena is just enjoyable as a main character as ever. She’s still sneaky, cunning and mischievious but she’s also embracing her true self, which is amazing to see. I love seeing her relationships with other characters flourish, and they really go to new heights in this book.
The plot of Queen of Shadows is full of action and suspense. Along with the writing, I was constantly turning the page because I wanted to know more. For a big book, there’s never a moment that felt boring in this book to me and that was so refreshing.
Overall, I think Queen of Shadows is by far, my favourite in the series so far. The plot, the writing, the world building and the characters take the series to another level. And it also happens to be another level that I’m excited to see the continuation of!
