One of the best things about reading is discovering brand new (to me) authors. Even though my year had a lot of re-reads, I also discovered 10 new to me authors that I can’t wait to read more from in the future!
So today I’m sharing a list of the 10 new to me authors that have become quick favourites. Between the writing, the characters and the overall plots of these books, I can’t wait to see more from these authors in the future.
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where she assigns a new topic each week and we post a top ten list to go along with the theme!
New to Me Authors
Lyssa Kay Adams: Within the last year or so, I’ve become a huge fan of romance books. Especially contemporary romance and rom-coms. I read The Bromance Book Club and Undercover Bromance in 2020 and loved them. I can’t wait to continue the series and read more from Lyssa Kay Adams in the future!
Gloria Chao: I read Rent a Boyfriend back in November and it was my first Gloria Chao book! While I really enjoyed the plot and the characters, I just didn’t love the writing. But, I enjoyed everything else about it that I want to try American Panda or any upcoming books. I think she still has potential to be a new favourite author!
Jen DeLuca: I read Well Met in January of 2020 and read it again of the summer — that’s how much I loved it. It is such a fun and entertaining read. While I didn’t love Well Played as much, I can’t wait for Well Matched in the fall!
Lucy Foley: I read The Guest List because of it’s comparison to Agatha Christie. While it wasn’t my favourite mystery ever, I’m still curious to read more of Lucy Foley’s works. It was certainly an atmospheric mystery!
Talia Hibbert: Oh my goodness, I can’t believe I hadn’t read Get a Life, Chloe Brown as soon as it released. It made my top 10 favourite books of 2020 list and will be a forever favourite. It’s just such an amazing book. I can’t wait to read Take a Hint, Dani Brown and Act Your Age, Eve Brown!
Karen M McManus: I read two books this year by Karen M McManus! I read One of Us is Lying and The Cousins. While I definitely preferred The Cousins but both were great young adult mysteries. I can’t wait to read more of her books!
Julie Murphy: Ok, I’m kind of cheating with this one a little bit. I read Dumplin’ years ago and quite honestly, don’t remember most of it. So reading Faith: Taking Flight seemed like my first experience with Julie Murphy and I just didn’t love the book. But I did enjoy Dumplin’ so I want to read more of her books in the future!
Renée Watson: I love reading middle grade books and Ways to Make Sunshine is a new favourite. I loved this book, the characters and the writing. I have an ARC of Love is a Revolution so I’m looking forward to reading more of her books. Plus, there’s a sequel to Ways to Make Sunshine releasing this year that I will definitely be reading!
Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka: I read Always Never Yours back in the spring of 2020 and LOVED it. I loved the writing, the plot, the characters — everything. I quickly jumped right into If I’m Being Honest and read an ARC of Time of Our Lives. All of these contemporary romance books are wonderful. Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka are solidified as new favourite authors.
Adrienne Young: The best is for last. I read Fable after hearing so many of my friends raving about it. And it definitely lived up to the hype. I think Fable is my favourite book from 2020 and I can’t wait to read Namesake. I also picked up her backlist to try and read this year!

I really need to read Fable still! I first read Sky in the Deep and loved that, so I’ve been looking forward to Fable! I read The Cousins last year, and I definitely need to pick up One of Us is Lying now!
Here’s my TTT post.

WAYS TO MAKE SUNSHINE is a cute book, isn’t it? I read it last year as well and it definitely made me want to read more by Watson. THE GUEST LIST was a disappointing read for me. I wanted to love it and just … didn’t. McManus is an author I’ve enjoyed, although I think I’ve only read one of her books so far. Glad you found these authors in 2020!
Happy TTT!
