Edward (long live the king) is the King of England. He’s also dying, which is inconvenient, as he’s only sixteen and he’d much rather be planning for his first kiss than considering who will inherit his crown …
Jane (reads too many books) is Edward’s cousin, and far more interested in books than romance. Unfortunately for Jane, Edward has arranged to marry her off to secure the line of succession. And there’s something a little odd about her intended …
Gifford (call him G) is a horse. That is, he’s an Eðian (eth-y-un, for the uninitiated). Every day at dawn he becomes a noble chestnut steed — but then he wakes at dusk with a mouthful of hay. It’s all very undignified.
The plot thickens as Edward, Jane, and G are drawn into a dangerous conspiracy. With the fate of the kingdom at stake, our heroes will have to engage in some conspiring of their own. But can they pull off their plan before it’s off with their heads?
My Lady Jane Review
After hearing about My Lady Jane, I knew it was a book I needed to read. I’m so glad I enjoyed it as much as I did!
My Lady Jane is a fictional retelling of Lady Jane Grey. It follows Jane as she is the Queen of England for a total of nine days.
The characters in this book are amazing. Jane is great because she’s so awkward, loving, loyal and naive. Despite the hardships thrown at her, she perseveres, which I love. Overall, she’s a strong and brave main character.
Gifford and Edward are equally great and enchanting! They’re so sweet and their care for Jane is so evident.
Another thing that’s great about these characters is their perspectives! Switching perspectives in each chapter was really enjoyable. I love how each individual story plays out and how they all intertwine with one another.
I really enjoy historical fiction. Because I majored in history, I enjoy being immersed in past events. I love it even more when it’s a humourous retelling!
My Lady Jane is a perfect example of taking a moment in time and transforming it into something engaging, entertaining and modern! I love this twisted tale!
Combined with magical elements, this book is just so enjoyable. I laughed out loud several times and with great writing, an excellent plot as well as cheesy and swoony-worthy romance, it’s a great read.
Overall, I highly recommend My Lady Jane! It’s an enchanting book filled with humour. I can’t wait to continue with the series when My Plain Jane releases! I for one, need more of these stories in my life.

About the Authors
The Lady Janies are a group of three YA authors. The group is made up of Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand and Jodi Meadows. Between the three of them, they’ve written twenty novles, a bunch of novellas, a handful of short stories and a couple of really bad poems. They’re friends. They’re writers. They are fixing history by rewriting one sad story at a time.
