Two weeks.
That’s how long it took for Avery West’s ordinary life to change forever: In two weeks, she discovered she was heiress to a powerful secret society known as the Circle, learned her mother was taken hostage by the Circle’s enemies, and fell for a boy she’s not allowed to love, just as she found out another was her unwelcome destiny.
Now, Avery crosses oceans in private jets to hunt for clues that will uncover the truth about the Circle, setting her mom and herself free before it’s too late. By her side are both the boys: Jack —steady, loyal, and determined to help her even at the expense of his own duty — and Stellan, whose connection to Avery grows stronger by the day despite her best intentions, making her question what she believes at every turn.
But at the end of a desperate hunt from the islands of Greece to the red carpet at Cannes comes a discovery that not only changes everything, but could bring the whole world to its knees. And now Avery is forced to face the truth: in the world of the Circle, no one is what they seem.
Map of Fates Review
Map of Fates is the sequel to The Conspiracy of Us, a book I thoroughly enjoyed. I loved the adventure in the first book so I was definitely eager to jump into its sequel!
The Conspiracy of Us series focuses on Avery, who learns that she is apart of a secret society called The Circle. When she learns this, she gets tangled up in a mystery that takes her across the globe! Map of Fates picks up after the events of the first book.
Avery’s character in the first book is enjoyable and I liked her. But, I hoped for some more character development. Not only does Avery really develop in this book, but so does Stellan. I thoroughly enjoyed the natural progression of his character throughout Map of Fates.
Like the first book, this one has such a wonderful pace to it. It picks up right where the last book left off and there is absolutely no fluff. I love that! I sometimes need a change of pace in the books that I read, and this is certainly one aspect that makes this book (and series) so successful!
In addition to great pacing,Maggie Hall does a fantastic job of weaving history into her storyline. It makes it so enjoyable to read a fast paced adventure novel with history and historical fictures intertwined.
My only desire for the final book is to bring a close to the love triangle because it was a bit overkill in this sequel. While love triangles sometimes work for me, it was just too much in this one.
Overall, Map of Fates is full of suspense, mystery and even more romance than the first book. I can’t wait to see how the trilogy ends. I definitely recommend this series, especially if you’re up to some adventure and globe-trotting!
