When the Lightning Girl’s spark is gone, who will light the way for the rebellion?
Mare Barrow is a prisoner, powerless without her lightning, tormented by her lethal mistakes. She lives at the mercy of a boy she once loved, a boy made of lies and betrayal. Now a king, Maven Calore continues weaving his dead mother’s web in an attempt to maintain control over his country — and his prisoner.
As Mare bears the weight of Silent Stone in the palace, her once-ragtag band of newbloods and Reds continue organizing, training, and expanding. They prepare for war, no longer able to linger in the shadows. And Cal, the exiled prince with his own claim on Mare’s heart, will stop at nothing to bring her back.
When blood turns on blood, and ability on ability, there may be no one left to put out the fire — leaving Norta as Mare knows it to burn all the way down.
King’s Cage Review
The Red Queen series has been a hit or miss for me. I really loved Red Queen but Glass Sword was a little underwhelming for me. Thankfully, I really enjoyed King’s Cage!
King’s Cage picks up after the events of Glass Sword. There’s more politics, fighting and training. There’s also a lot of set up for the final book!
One thing I love about this series is the characters. Mare’s strength and bravery certainly shines in this book. Cal is basically the same as he always is!
While Maven is unbelievably cruel in this book, I kind of like him at times. He’s so mean and cruel but he has such an ability to tug at my heartstrings.
There’s more epic battles and intense political discussions, which Victoria Aveyard writes so well! While I’ve been vocal about this book being very similar to The Hunger Games and Divergent, it’s evolved really well.
Once again, Victoria Aveyard’s writing is fantastic. This is certainly something that always drives me back to this series.
Victoria Aveyard is so descriptive and creates such vividly stunning settings that leap off the page. I always find myself wanting to know more because of her words. She certainly knows how to captivate her reader!
Overall, I really enjoyed King’s Cage. I think it’s a great addition to the series. I’m certainly excited to see how everything concludes in War Storm.
I’m hoping it will be the epic conclusion I’ve made it up to be in my head!
