It’s hard to believe we’re already at the end of January and it’s time to share my January 2024 reading wrap up!
It’s always really exciting to start the year off with some great new books. While my reading was slower than I anticipated this month, I’m still pleased with the books I did read.
I’m also a bit ambitious with my reading goals this year. First, I would like to read. 50 books, which I’m usually able to complete. I also want to complete as many prompts as I can for the buzzwordathon, the A to Z reading challenge and the Popsugar Reading Challenge.
I have a long list of backlist books as well as a list of books on Kindle Unlimited that I hope to get to this year.
In January, I read eight books — two full length novels and six novellas. While it’s not what I expected, I’m still pleased with it. I’m excited to see what my reading is like in February!

January 2024 Reading Wrap Up
The Getaway List by Emma Lord. Since Emma Lord’s debut, I’ve started off the year reading her next young adult release. I really enjoyed The Getaway List — the characters were entertaining, the plot was enjoyable and the romance was sweet. I loved the friendship between Riley and Tom as well as the way it shifted over time. It was realistic and really enjoyable. I also loved the side characters in this one!
Till There Was You by Lindsay Hameroff. Till There Was You is the first book to mark off a prompt for the buzzwordathon this year. When I heard about this book, I really thought it was one I would enjoy. And I was right! I think it was a really sweet romance and I loved the added bonus of the food theme. There was some miscommunication in this book that I feel was a little overdone, I still really enjoyed the second chance romance.
The Exception to the Rule by Christina Lauren. I adored this novella! The Exception to the Rule is short and sweet but really packs a punch. I loved the accidental e-mail exchanges and the way these characters continued them through the years. I also loved the natural way they discovered each other in real life. It really was the best novella in the Improbable Meet Cute collection.
Worst Wingman Ever by Abby Jimenez. Just like The Exception to the Rule, I really enjoyed this novella. Abby Jimenez does such a wonderful job at merging swoon-worthy romance with the difficulty of navigating grief. I think this story was adorable and I enjoyed it the whole way through. I would say it’s my second favourite in the collection.
Rosie and the Dreamboat by Sally Thorne. While I’ve had some success with Sally Thorne in the past, I don’t always enjoy her books. Rosie and the Dreamboat was a pleasant surprise! I thought it was super cute, even though the premise of it really makes you feel a little claustrophobic. The characters were adorable and I love the emotional connection they created.
Drop, Cover and Hold On by Jasmine Guillory. Jasmine Guillory is such a wonderful writer and this novella is just as good as her full length novels. It was short and sweet but it was a little insta-lovey for me. Despite that, I still think it was a solid read and would recommend it.
With Any Luck by Ashley Poston. After having such success with the books in this romance novella series, With Any Luck was a little bit of a flop for me. I think the concept of the story makes sense but the execution of it just didn’t work for me. Some of my friends said the same thing about this novella, so I don’t think I’m alone in my thoughts for this one.
Royal Valentine by Sariah Wilson. Royal Valentine was another novella in the series that just didn’t work for me. I usually love books with a royal theme to it but this one just didn’t make me excited. I did enjoy the writing though so I’m curious to read more of Sariah Wilson’s books and see if I enjoy those more!
