Bound by blood.
Tempted by desire.
Unleashed by destiny.
Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life — working hard all day and partying all night — until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She’ll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.
Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen angel, now enslaved to the Archangels he once attempted to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength have been set to one purpose — to assassinate his boss’s enemies, no questions asked. But with a demon wreaking havoc in the city, he’s offered an irresistible deal: help Bryce find the murderer, and his freedom will be within reach.
As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City’s underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion — one that could set them both free, if they’d only let it.
With unforgettable characters, sizzling romance, and page-turning suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom — and the power of love.
House of Earth and Blood Review
Ever since hearing about Sarah J Maas’ first adult fantasy, I’ve been eagerly waiting its release! I was absolutely shocked when Raincoast Books sent me an ARC of it and let me tell you, this book did not disappoint!
House of Earth and Blood follows Bryce, a half-human, half-fae, as she investigates the brutal murder of her friends. Hunt is a Fallen Angel who assists Bryce during the investigation in order to gain his freedom.
The characters in this book are just phenomenal. Once again, Sarah J Maas creates really fleshed out characters that drive you to turn the pages. I love Bryce because she’s sassy, bold and vibrant. While the death of her friends is sad, it plays a crucial role in her character development and story.
Hunt is equally as great. He’s desperate for his freedom which leads him to do things he doesn’t want to do …. work with Bryce. But he works so well with Bryce and I just love their chemistry and their witty banter. It certainly reminds me of the chemistry between Rhys and Feyre!
While the romance in this book is a slow burn, it is totally worth it! Sarah J Maas writes amazing characters with chemistry that leaps of the pages and this book is no different. Bryce and Hunt will forever be a favourite!
While the first 100 pages of the book is slow, it really picks up. The plot of House of Earth and Blood is mysterious, suspenseful and absolutely addicting. There are a ton of moments that will have you at the edge of your seat and desperately wanting to turn the page.
I loved every second of this book and finished the 800 pages in less than three days! Yes, there is a lot of info-dumping, and descriptions for world-building but the overall story is fantastic.
Overall, I loved every minute of House of Earth and Blood. The characters, the slow-burn romance, the addicting mystery and the desperate desire for more. I cannot wait until the next book so I can have more of these characters in my life!
I highly recommend this book to fans of Sarah J Maas as well as fans of epic, high fantasy!
