Heir of Fire Review
I have quickly become a Sarah J Maas fan! Her writing and the worlds she creates are just so engrossing. Unfortunately, this one just fell so flat for me.
Heir of Fire is the third book in the Throne of Glass series. It follows Celeana Sardothien as she competes to become the King’s Champion and personal assassin.
I really enjoyed Throne of Glass because of the story and the characters. I became addicted to the world and Sarah J Maas’ writing. This only continued with Crown of Midnight, which left me incredibly excited for this third book.
According to my Goodreads, I started started reading Heir of Fire on July 12th and didn’t finish it until August 8th. It took me an entire month to read this book, which I think sums up my feelings.
The one thing I really loved about this book is the introduction of new characters. I really enjoyed Abraxos and I’m also really curious about Rowan. Both are interesting additions to the storyline and I’m eager to read more!
But, I didn’t really enjoy Manon and Abraxos’ storyline. It just felt like it took over the storyline of the book and it just didn’t pull me in.
To be quite honest, I feel like this book is a filler. I went in with such excitement and came out a little disappointed. I’m sure it’s important to the storyline, but it just felt boring.
The hilarious thing is, I’m not done with the series. I enjoyed the first two books so much and I love Sarah J Maas in general. But, if the first two books were just ok, I probably would be stopping at Heir of Fire. But, I just want more action!
Overall, this is not a favourite of mine. Considering it has such a following and so many people adore this book, I’m surprised I didn’t.
But, I’m planning on continuing with Queen of Shadows. Fingers crossed it redeems the series for me!
Rating: ★★★☆☆

YAASSSS!!! Thank you! I felt the exact same way!!!! I do realize that it was a kind of “coming into herself” book for our main character but I was SO BORED!!! It took me forever to finish and, like you, I still want to continue with the series. I have started the next book but have not gotten very far:(

For sure, I completely understand the need for it I guess, but I just found it too long and nothing really happened. I’ve started Queen of Shadows and I’m about 400 pages in. I’m definitely enjoying it more than Heir of Fire!

This was the most boring book for me because I hated Rowan as a love interest and as a person
