Spooky season is officially here, which means that Halloween is right around the corner. From books about witches, vampires, ghosts and more, these Halloween romance books are sure to get you in the spirit of the season!

During October, I love watching cozy Halloween movies and curling up with a good book. While fantasy and mystery books are something I enjoy, there’s nothing better than a swoony romance. It’s even better to find great romance books to get me in the spirit of Halloween!

The Best Halloween Romance Books
A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. Can’t choose between witches or vampires? A Discovery of Witches combines a centuries-old vampire and a witch, making it the perfect choice. Add in a little bit of mystery, you’ve got a great option for spooky season. Plus, when you finish reading, you can binge the television show!
A Letter to Three Witches by Elizabeth Bass. After romance causes problems with their magic, a trio of witches lose their ability to practice magic. To get their magic back, they need to fix their love lives. The first in a series, A Letter to Three Witches is a sweet and magical rom-com to read during October.
Angelika Frankenstein Makes Her Match by Sally Thorne. Sally Thorne’s newest release may be a bit different than her previous books. But it also means it’s a perfect book for spooky season! Follow Angelika Frankenstein as she works with her brother Victor Frankenstein to create the perfect man. It’s a great mix of the original story we all know and love, with a little added spice.
Go Hex Yourself by Jessica Clare. Another great romantic comedy to pick up during spooky season! After answering a job ad in the paper, Reggie learns that she accidentally applied to be a real witch. While apprenticing, she has to deal with the annoying (and handsome) nephew of her employer. Go Hex Yourself is a fun enemies-to-lovers rom-com with witches, magic that you don’t want to miss!
Not the Witch You Wed by April Asher. If you love fake dating, you’ll love Not the Witch You Wed. Violet is a magic-less witch who doesn’t want to deal with her ex-boyfriend, who also happens to be a wolf. After they learn they both need to find mates, they agree to fake date to give themselves more time. Not the Witch You Wed combines a beloved romance trope with the comforts of spooky season.
Payback’s a Witch by Lana Harper. After being away from home, Emmy decides to visit her family and regain her powers. While home, she runs into Talia who is fresh off of a bad breakup with a man who was also seeing Emmy’s best friend Linden. Talia and Linden want revenge, and Emmy needs to decide if she’ll join. If you’re looking for witches, revenge and an LBGTQ+ friendly read, this is the choice for you. After you finish, you’ll want to jump into the sequel: From Bad to Cursed.
Small Town, Big Magic by Hazel Beck. If you’re looking for a witchy romance set in a small town, you’ll certainly love this one. Small Town, Big Magic follows Emerson, a bookstore owner and descendant of a witch. When strange things start happening in the town, she discovers she may be a witch herself. Along with a cute local farmer, Emerson works to save her friends, her town and her life.
The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston. Ashley Poston’s debut romance is another great choice for spooky season. The Dead Romantics follows Florence, a ghostwriter for romance authors who also believes that love is dead. When she returns home for her father’s funeral, she sees a ghost: her handsome editor, who happens to have unfinished business with her.
The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling. If you’re looking for an entertaining story with witches and hexes, then this is the book for you. After a broken heart as a young witch, Vivienne casts a curse on her ex-boyfriend. Nine years later, Rhys returns to town and Vivienne learns her hex may not have been harmless. When the town is under attack, Vivienne and Rhys must work together to break the curse. Be sure to check out the sequel, The Kiss Curse!
The League of Gentlewomen Witches by India Holton. While this one is the second book in a series, it’s still a perfect option for the month of October. Follow Charlotte, who belongs to a secret league of women skilled in witchcraft. When a lost amulet turns up, Charlotte teams up with a pirate, Alex to protect the amulet. It’s a fun historical romance with witches and pirates β what more could you ask for? You should also check out the first and third book in the series.
The Lost Witch by Paige Crutcher. Romance, history and time jumps collide in The Lost Witch. The story follows Brigid, a powerful witch living in 1922. When she wakes up in 2022 with no memories of how she got there, she learns that there is a terrible curse and she may have helped put it there. It’s full of adventure, magic and fantasy.
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna. Mika is one of the only witches in Britain, which means she keeps her powers to herself. When she’s asked to go to a remote house to learn how to control her powers, she meets Jamie. It’s the perfect read for those looking for witches, romance, mystery and intrigue!
When Life Gives You Vampires by Gloria Duke. Everyone loves witches, but there’s nothing better than a good vampire story! When Lily wakes up as a vampire, she teams up with Tristan, the guy who turned her to save themselves from vampire law. It’s a book full of body positivity, humour and swoony romance.
Witch Please by Ann Aguirre. Practical Magic mixed with Gilmore Girls and LGBTQ+ characters are waiting for you in Witch Please! The first in a series, it follows Danica, a modern witch who is going through a messy breakup. After meeting Titus, sparks fly but their relationship is at odds because of Danica’s family. After reading, be sure to check out the sequels, Boss Witch and Extra Witchy!
Witchful Thinking by Celestine Martin. A brand new release for 2022, this one is not to be missed! After wishing for more in her life, Lucy wakes up to learn she cast a spell, and now she can’t say no. When her high school crush Alexander asks her for help unjinxing his new house, she can’t say no. But she gets more than she bargained for when there’s magic in the air!
