Henry “Monty” Montague was born and bred to be a gentleman, but he was never one to be tamed. The finest boarding schools in England and the constant disapproval of his father haven’t been able to curb any of his roguish passions — not for gambling halls, late nights spent with a bottle of spirits, or waking up in the arms of women or men.
But as Monty embarks on his Grand Tour of Europe, his quest for a life filled with pleasure and vice is in danger of coming to an end. Not only does his father expect him to take over the family’s estate upon his return, but Monty is also nursing an impossible crush on his best friend and traveling companion, Percy.
Still it isn’t in Monty’s nature to give up. Even with his younger sister, Felicity, in tow, he vows to make this yearlong escapade one last hedonistic hurrah and flirt with Percy from Paris to Rome. But when one of Monty’s reckless decisions turns their trip abroad into a harrowing manhunt that spans across Europe, it calls into question everything he knows, including his relationship with the boy he adores.
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue Review
After hearing about The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue for a while, I figured it was time I tried it. I really enjoyed the storyline and the characters!
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue follows Monty as he embarks on his Grand Tour of Europe with his best friend Percy and his little sister, Felicity. But, their Grand Tour does not go according to plan!
The characters in this book are really great. I love Monty because he’s hilarious and just really, really into himself. There are so many occasions where I was laughing out loud.
Monty’s relationship with Percy is adorable. Not only does their connection jump through the pages, it’s also just super sweet. I also really love Felicity! She’s so fiesty and incredibly intelligent. I’m really happy the next book focuses on her.
I really like that this book takes place in the 1700s. It adds a fun elemen to a really quirky story! I really like how Mackenzi Lee explains certain aspects of her book at the end.
Mackenzi Lee’s writing is so easy to read and I enjoyed it throughout the book. She creates some vivid settings and makes you feel like you’re really in the 1700s. It’s so enjoyable.
Overall, I recommend this book to anyone wanting a fun adventure with some history mixed in. I’m sure you’ll love these characters, the chaos and the humour!
