Enter the brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders from USA Today bestselling author Rebecca Yarros.
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.
But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away … because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.
With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant.
She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise.
Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom’s protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret.
Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda—because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die.
Fourth Wing Book Review
After hearing about Fourth Wing, I wasn’t sure if it was going to be a book for me. With so much hype surrounding it, I didn’t want it to fall flat. But, a friend told me I would love it and she was so right! I absolutely loved every minute of this book!
Fourth Wing follows Violet, who has been training to enter into the Scribe Quadrant. When her mother insists that she join the elite squadron of dragon riders, she must survive the grueling tasks at the college. With enemies on all sides, Violet gets more than she bargained for.
I absolutely loved the characters in this book. Violet is a really strong main character overall. But, I specifically loved her tenacity and willingness to stand up for herself. She grows so much throughout the book and it was really enjoyable to witness.
Xander is also a great character and his relationship with Violet definitely had me turning the page, wanting more. He’s broody and mysterious at times, but he’s also protective — I just really enjoyed his character.
Dane is the only aspect of this book that really bothered me. As Violet’s best friend, I expect different behaviour from him. While I can expect him to be protective of her, his lack of support really got on my nerves. I’m hoping that he can redeem himself in the sequel.
The slowburn, enemies-to-lovers romance in this book is definitely addicting. While the hype made me fear that it would let me down, it really is a great element within this book.
The plot is action packed and constantly had me turning the page. Even now, I find myself thinking about this book. While it’s not the best fantasy plot I’ve ever read, it’s well written and left me wanting more, which is exactly what I’m looking for in a fantasy.
The dragons are also a great element in this book — I love them so much and can’t wait to see what happens with them in the next book.
Overall, Fourth Wing is a fantastic book that will leave you wanting more. It’s the perfect book for fans of Divergent and The Hunger Games. If you’re looking for an epic fantasy that also has great romance, than this is the book for you!
I really can’t wait to pick up Iron Flame — I’ve already pre-ordered it!
