Finlay Donovan is―once again―struggling to finish her next novel and keep her head above water as a single mother of two. On the bright side, she has her live-in nanny and confidant Vero to rely on, and the only dead body she’s dealt with lately is that of her daughter’s pet goldfish.
On the not-so-bright side, someone out there wants her ex-husband, Steven, out of the picture. Permanently. Whatever else Steven may be, he’s a good father, but saving him will send her down a rabbit hole of hit-women disguised as soccer moms, and a little bit more involvement with the Russian mob than she’d like.
Meanwhile, Vero’s keeping secrets, and Detective Nick Anthony seems determined to get back into her life. He may be a hot cop, but Finlay’s first priority is preventing her family from sleeping with the fishes … and if that means bending a few laws then so be it.
With her next book’s deadline looming and an ex-husband to keep alive, Finlay is quickly coming to the end of her rope. She can only hope there isn’t a noose at the end of it …
From Edgar-Award nominee Elle Cosimano, comes Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead―the hilarious and heart-pounding follow-up to Finlay Donovan is Killing It.
Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead Book Review
I’m so glad I immediately jumped into reading this book after finishing Finlay Donovan is Killing It. What a fun and enjoyable series!
Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead picks up right after the events of the first book. The series follows Finlay, a single mother and novelist who is struggling to make ends meet. When someone overhears her talking about the plot of her next mystery novel, they try to hire her as a contract killer.
I enjoyed Finlay just as much as I did in the first book. Her character is definitely evolving but she’s also still mixed up in chaos. Her friendship with Vero is so endearing and I really appreciate the support that they both provide each other.
I love that there is more depth to Vero’s character in this book. While there are still aspects of her life that will be revealed as the series goes on, I like that we finally get a deeper glimpse into who she is.
While I’m not really a fan of love triangles, I’m still enjoying the romance in this book and am curious to see how things play out. My only wish is that the love triangle doesn’t drag on throughout the series. But, I’ll have to wait and see!
The plot of this sequel is just as fun and full of chaos as the first book. It’s always funny to see Finlay get into some really sticky situations but is successful in getting out of them. Since the plot of this book is a little more personal for Finlay, it really makes for an enjoyable and interesting read!
Overall, Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead is a great sequel. While I still think I enjoyed the first book more, I’m excited to see where things go. It’s the perfect lighthearted mystery read that I would definitely recommend!
