One little white lie.
That’s all it took. Now I’m suddenly having to fake-date my work nemesis to get me through a week at a Vermont Christmas lodge with my family.
The problem? I can’t stand Miles Taylor. Not only that, but I don’t date people I work with. But I can handle it. I’ve had practice faking my emotions for years. So it shouldn’t matter that Miles never lets me get away with anything. And that he happens to boil my blood hotter than a steaming pot of wassail. So when he throws his annoying grin my way or forces me on dates he knows I’ll hate, I’ll just grit my teeth and smile.
Or maybe not. Did I mention that Miles is the one person in the world I can’t seem to fool?
When my emotions begin feeling less like a sham and his arms feel way too comfortable, it makes me think that maybe Miles had a plan of his own. And I’m starting to like it a lot more than mine.
Faking Christmas Book Review
After hearing so much about this book (and series) on Instagram, I finally gave it a try. I’m so glad I did because this book is a total delight!
Faking Christmas follows Olive, a high school teacher heading to a Vermont inn with her family for Christmas. To avoid being set up with an ex, she lies and says shes dating her co-worker, Miles. But, it turns out that Miles’ family owns the Vermont inn and they’ll be spending Christmas together.
Olive and Miles are fantastic characters, individually and together. Their banter while at work is so fun and I just love how Miles gets on Olive’s nerves. It’s so fun to see the way their relationship unfolds over the course of the story.
I also love how Miles can break through Olive’s barriers. He’s just the sweetest and the way he takes on this fake-dating situation is great. It makes for a really engaging and entertaining story. I never wanted to stop reading!
The romance in Faking Christmas is closed door. While it’s closed door, it’s swoon-worthy. The simple romantic gestures and the way their relationship naturally unfolds, is the sweetest thing ever. I can definitely see myself reading this book every Christmas — it’s that good!
The setting in Faking Christmas is also great. It reminds me of a Hallmark movie and I just loved the fun activities that Olive and Miles participate in. The bingo card they try and complete is such a fun element!
Overall, Faking Christmas is probably the best Christmas romance book I’ve read. With great characters, swoon-worthy romance and the perfect Christmas setting, what more could you ask for?
If you haven’t given this one a try yet, I highly recommend you do!
