For seventeen-year-old Fable, the daughter of the most powerful trader in the Narrows, the sea is the only home she has ever known. It’s been four years since the night she watched her mother drown during an unforgiving storm. The next day her father abandoned her on a legendary island filled with thieves and little food. To survive she must keep to herself, learn to trust no one, and rely on the unique skills her mother taught her. The only thing that keeps her going is the goal of getting off the island, finding her father, and demanding her rightful place beside him and his crew. To do so Fable enlists the help of a young trader named West to get her off the island and across the Narrows to her father.
But her father’s rivalries and the dangers of his trading enterprise have only multiplied since she last saw him, and Fable soon finds that West isn’t who he seems. Together, they will have to survive more than the treacherous storms that haunt the Narrows if they’re going to stay alive.
Welcome to a world made dangerous by the sea and by those who wish to profit from it. Where a young girl must find her place and her family while trying to survive in a world built for men. Fable takes you on a spectacular journey filled with romance, intrigue, and adventure.
Fable Review
When books are hyped up, I can be skeptical about whether I’ll enjoy the book or not. But, after hearing my book friends Brittany, Milana and Flavia rave about Fable, it was time to pick it up.
Fable follows seventeen year old Fable who has been surviving on an island for four years. She enlists the help of trading ship to help make her way back to her father. It’s there that she hopes to join his successful trading crew.
I really love the characters in this book. Fable is brave, loyal, daring and determined. Because of her past, she has every reason to move on and make a new life for herself. But she’s extremely dedicated to proving herself. I really loved this determination.
The Marigold crew are also fantastic characters. I love the wide range of personalities — West is guarded, Willa is protective, Auster and Paj are skeptical. But together they make a great sea-faring crew. Their dynamics with Fable grow throughout the book and I just loved seeing the changes.
While the characters are great, the plot is perfection. It’s a crazy adventure that’s full of action, twists and turns. There are certainly some shocking moments that I didn’t see coming … especially the ending! There’s not a moment in this book that felt slow so I constantly felt like turning the page.
Overall, Fable is an excellent adventurous book. It’s full of tense action, strong characters and plot twists. The ending certainly left me wanting more and I can’t wait for Namesake.
Even though Fable is my first Adrienne Young book, it certainly won’t be my last.
