My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.
But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black — black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.
Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.
Everything Everything Review
Everything Everything is a really enjoyable book. This is my first Nicola Yoon book and I don’t think it will be my last. Not only is this book captivating and humourous, it’s also endearing and unique!
Everything Everything follows Maddy, a young teenage girl who is allergic to the world. Because of this, she dreams of what is outside her four walls. When new neighbours move in, she’s drawn to the teenage boy, Olly.
I really enjoyed Maddy as a main character because she’s super sweet. Her character arc is really enjoyable – you can’t help but want her to experience the world. The progression of her relationship with Olly is really cute as well!
I also really loved Carla. She’s definitely the friend that Maddy needs in the crazy world she lives in. Carla is always there for Maddy and I totally admire that quality.
One of my favourite parts of this book is the illustrations. The illustrations really helped me to relate to a young teenager writing her story and doodling along with her thoughts.
The illustrations are such a smart touch to the story. But, I would recommend reading a hardcover or paperback version of the book. Reading this in e-book made the illustrations harder to see, so I think it kind of took away from the whole experience.
While I enjoyed the book for the most part, I did find that it ended abruptly. It’s just not the right ending. I do enjoy when author’s leave some aspect of the ending up to the reader.
Specifically, I enjoy imagining where a character may have gone, or how a relationship may have progressed. However, Nicola Yoon really ended this book with too much for the reader to figure out. It kind of just left me on a bit of a sour note.
If you want a quick and easy, quirky contemporary read, then I would definitely recommend this book. And, the movie is also a nice addition to the story – it was super cute!

I also enjoyed this! but I gave it all the stars because I could not for the life of me put it down. I can see where you’re coming from when you mentioned that the ending left something to be desired.
