Budding photographer Josie Saint-Martin has spent half her life with her single mother, moving from city to city. When they return to her historical New England hometown years later to run the family bookstore, Josie knows it’s not forever. Her dreams are on the opposite coast, and she has a plan to get there.
What she doesn’t plan for is a run-in with the town bad boy, Lucky Karras. Outsider, rebel … and her former childhood best friend. Lucky makes it clear he wants nothing to do with the newly returned Josie. But everything changes after a disastrous pool party, and a poorly executed act of revenge lands Josie in some big-time trouble — with Lucky unexpectedly taking the blame.
Determined to understand why Lucky was so quick to cover for her, Josie discovers that both of them have changed, and that the good boy she once knew now has a dark sense of humor and a smile that makes her heart race. And maybe, just maybe, he’s not quite the brooding bad boy everyone thinks he is …
Chasing Lucky Review
It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Jenn Bennett! I absolutely love her contemporary romance books and they are certainly auto-buys for me. And let me tell you, she’s done it again!
Chasing Lucky follows Josie, who returns to her hometown with her single mother after years away. Once there, she also returns to her childhood best friend, Lucky.
One thing I love about Jenn Bennett’s books are her characters. The characters are incredibly likeable and it’s certainly no different in this one. Josie is sweet and caring, but she also lives as a shell. She keeps to herself while planning for her future and making the life she’s always wanted.
Lucky is also fantastic. He’s bold, carefree and he definitely brings out a side of Josie that is fun to see. I love their relationship with one another – from struggling to reconnect to a blossoming relationship. It’s a classic Jenn Bennett romance, and that’s why I love them!
Both of these characters grow throughout the book. While they grow as individuals they also really grow together. I just love how they bring out the best sides of each other, whether it be the artsy side or the loyal side.
The plot in Chasing Lucky is really enjoyable. There’s drama, reconnection and obviously, some miscommuniction. It certainly reflects the time in a teenager’s life of trying to figure out the rest of their life. This is something I think Jenn Bennett does really well.
As always, the writing is fantastic. It flows and everything connects seamlessly. There’s plenty of humour as well as moments that will make you laugh, and possibly cry. But, that’s what makes a perfect Jenn Bennett story.
Overall, Chasing Lucky is a fantastic read. It’s another solid contemporary romance and certainly solidifies her as one of my favourite authors. While Starry Eyes will (probably) always be my favourite, this one is a great read too!
