An irresistible story from Kasie West that explores the timeless question: What do you do when you fall for the person you least expect?
When Autumn Collins finds herself accidentally locked in the library for an entire weekend, she doesn’t think things could get any worse. But that’s before she realizes that Dax Miller is locked in with her.
Autumn doesn’t know much about Dax except that he’s trouble. Between the rumors about the fight he was in (and that brief stint in juvie that followed it) and his reputation as a loner, he’s not exactly the ideal person to be stuck with. Still, she just keeps reminding herself that it is only a matter of time before Jeff, her almost-boyfriend, realizes he left her in the library and comes to rescue her.
Only he doesn’t come. No one does.
Instead it becomes clear that Autumn is going to have to spend the next couple of days living off vending-machine food and making conversation with a boy who clearly wants nothing to do with her. Except there is more to Dax than meets the eye.
As he and Autumn at first grudgingly, and then not so grudgingly, open up to each other, Autumn is struck by their surprising connection. But can their feelings for each other survive once the weekend is over and Autumn’s old life, and old love interest, threaten to pull her from Dax’s side?
By Your Side Review
After reading Kasie West for the first time last year, I’m slowly making my way through her backlist titles. By Your Side is my favourite Kasie West book so far!
By Your Side follows Autumn who is accidentally locked in a library with another student, Dax. It’s all about navigating relationships, friendships, growing up and facing fear and anxiety.
As soon as I started reading By Your Side, I knew I was going to love it. I loved every minute of it that I read it so quickly!
Autumn is such a relatable main character and I love how realistic her struggle with anxiety is. This is something that is so important for me, especially in young adult books. So many people struggle with anxiety and I think she does a great job at showing how crippling it can be.
Dax is also a wonderful character. I just love his character because he’s bold but also guarded. I really enjoyed watching his friendship and relationship with Autumn grow. It’s great to see how much they balance each other.
Since I love books, I totally love the fact that a library is the main setting. It’s such a cute and fun setting and a great choice for the book overall. I think this is certainly one of the reasons I love the book so much!
The ending is a little bit abrupt. But it could be because I was enjoying it so much I didn’t want it to end!
Overall, By Your Side is such a cute and romantic read. It’s definitely one to read in one sitting! It’s fluffy, humourous and a classic Kasie West book!
Rating: ★★★★☆ (4.5)
Favourite Quote
‘Books, bringing people together.’ That would make a good slogan for the library.
