What if America had a royal family? If you can’t get enough of Harry and Meghan or Kate and William, meet American princesses Beatrice and Samantha.
Two princesses vying for the ultimate crown.
Two girls vying for the prince’s heart.
This is the story of the American royals.
When America won the Revolutionary War, its people offered General George Washington a crown. Two and a half centuries later, the House of Washington still sits on the throne. Like most royal families, the Washingtons have an heir and a spare. A future monarch and a backup battery. Each child knows exactly what is expected of them. But these aren’t just any royals. They’re American. And their country was born of rebellion.
As Princess Beatrice gets closer to becoming America’s first queen regnant, the duty she has embraced her entire life suddenly feels stifling. Nobody cares about the spare except when she’s breaking the rules, so Princess Samantha doesn’t care much about anything, either . . . except the one boy who is distinctly off-limits to her. And then there’s Samantha’s twin, Prince Jefferson. If he’d been born a generation earlier, he would have stood first in line for the throne, but the new laws of succession make him third. Most of America adores their devastatingly handsome prince . . . but two very different girls are vying to capture his heart.
The duty. The intrigue. The Crown. New York Times bestselling author Katharine McGee imagines an alternate version of the modern world, one where the glittering age of monarchies has not yet faded–and where love is still powerful enough to change the course of history.
Review
As soon as I heard about American Royals, I knew it was a book I wanted to read. I’ve been anticipating this book for so long! I’m so happy to say that it lives up to my expectations and I really enjoyed it.
American Royals follows the royal family of America and all the crazy politics and drama. Princess Beatrice is dealing with the stress of the Royal lineage and the pressure of becoming Queen. Princess Samantha is struggling with her position and Prince Jefferson is juggling royal life and girls.
I absolutely adore these characters. They all really jump off of the page and make you feel as though you’re alongside a royal family. Princess Beatrice is super sweet and I really feel for her. She struggles with following her heart and what people expect of her. It’s something I think a lot of people can relate to. For that, I think she’s my favourite character.
Sam and Jefferson are fantastic. They’re dynamic with each other is so sweet and I love that they fall on each other. There are so many other characters in this book that are great as well. Nina is adorable and so relatable while Daphne totally makes me angry.
The drama in this book is so great and is definitely one of the reasons I enjoyed it. There are never opportunities to get comfortable in this book. There are constantly miscommunications and silly things that stand in the way. But it totally sucks you in and makes you want to read more.
I think this is also a great reimagining of the current landscape of America. It’s fun imagining that there’s a Royal family in America instead of a Presidency. It also makes me think of Canada with a Royal family. It’s kind of funny to look at it that way!
Overall, I think this is a great start to a new series. I really enjoyed it and I can’t believe I have to wait until the next book! It honestly feels like a mixture of The Luxe series, the Royals TV show and Gossip Girl. So definitely check it out if you love those or drama!
