Welcome, welcome to Finale, the third and final book in the #1 New York Times bestselling Caraval series!
Welcome, welcome to Caraval…all games must come to an end.
It’s been two months since the last Caraval concluded, two months since the Fates have been freed from an enchanted deck of cards, two months since Tella has seen Legend, and two months since Legend claimed the empire’s throne as his own. Now, Legend is preparing for his official coronation and Tella is determined to stop it. She believes her own mother, who still remains in an enchanted sleep, is the rightful heir to the throne.
Meanwhile, Scarlett has started a game of her own. She’s challenged Julian and her former fiancé, Count Nicolas d’Arcy, to a competition where the winner will receive her hand in marriage. Finaly, Scarlett feels as if she is in complete control over her life and future. She is unaware that her mother’s past has put her in the greatest danger of all.
Caraval is over, but perhaps the greatest game of all has begun―with lives, empires, and hearts all at stake. There are no spectators this time: only those who will win…and those who will lose everything. . .
All games must come to an end! When I first read Caraval, I fell in love with the world and the characters. Legendary brought me into a new story and a new type of game. With Finale, everything came together – but it’s certainly not my favourite in this series.
I love all these characters so much! Tella is definitely my favourite of the sisters – she’s bold and crazy feisty!! It’s crazy to me how much these characters push and pull with each other, but I’m certainly happy with the way things turned out in the end! AND THE LOVE TRIANGLE IN THIS ONE. Wow, it was one that really had me turning the pages – and not with annoyance.
One of the reasons I fell in love with Caraval is the whole game aspect. The game swept me away in the beginning with constant twists, turns and suspense. Legendary still had the ‘game’ feel, but it was different. While I missed it, I still enjoyed the overall plot of the second book.
Unfortunately, I feel like Finale lost some of the magic I fell in love with. I missed the game and the performance – it’s something that was so strong in the first book that I really wished it continued on. In my opinion, the focus of the story shifted so much from the core of the first book that I was a little disappointed. I guess I’m just a sucker for Legend’s performers and overall game creation!
That being said, I’m still happy with Finale. The ending is satisfying and I think things came together really well. I still wholeheartedly recommend this series. It has great writing and worldbuilding and it’s just overall, really enjoyable! I’m sad it’s over, but I’m really looking forward to seeing what Stephanie Garber comes out with next!
