Kingsbane by Claire Legrand - The Contented ReaderIn this sequel to the instant New York Times bestseller Furyborn, two queens, separated by a thousand years, connected by secrets and lies, must continue their fight amid deadly plots and unthinkable betrayals that will test their strength—and their hearts.

Rielle Dardenne has been anointed Sun Queen, but her trials are far from over. The Gate keeping the angels at bay is falling. To repair it, Rielle must collect the seven hidden castings of the saints. Meanwhile, to help her prince and love Audric protect Celdaria, Rielle must spy on the angel Corien—but his promises of freedom and power may prove too tempting to resist.

Centuries later, Eliana Ferracora grapples with her new reality: She is the Sun Queen, humanity’s long-awaited savior. But fear of corruption—fear of becoming another Rielle—keeps Eliana’s power dangerous and unpredictable. Hunted by all, racing against time to save her dying friend Navi, Eliana must decide how to wear a crown she never wanted—by embracing her mother’s power, or rejecting it forever.

I really enjoyed Furyborn last year and have been patiently waiting to get my hands on Kingsbane! I had so many questions that needed answers and I’m so happy with how much I enjoyed reading Kingsbane!

I absolutely adore the characters in this series. I really didn’t think I could love them more. Spoiler alert: I totally did. I just feel so drawn to the story of Rielle and Eliana. There’s a constant desire in me to read more, which left me flying through this book. This is especially crazy considering it’s 600+ pages! I also absolutely LOVE Simon.

I love Legrand’s writing – it’s consistent across both books! This book is definitely a heavy fantasy but it’s such an easy read. You’re constantly wanting to see what’s going to happen next, which is largely because of the flow of her writing. I’m totally envious of Legrand’s world-building. This world is so epic and is just so intriguing to me. I love that it spans over a crazy amount of time but everything flows effortlessly!

I really enjoy the overall plot of this series, but the particular plot of this book is great. I don’t know which one I enjoy more – the first or the second book! I’m stoked to see how this series continues and comes together in the end. I just can’t believe I have to wait again to read more!

Overall, I definitely recommend this series. It’s an epic fantasy that leaves me wanting more. Don’t mind me while I sit and wait for the final book in this trilogy!

  • […] My only qualm about this book is the fact that sometimes I did find I was a bit confused. Sometimes there is too much detail and I was afraid to miss something! While this did happen, it didn’t happen all that often. Moreover, these moments often left me with SO many unanswered questions. I love having questions in series, it makes you want more in the next books!   […]
