TITLE: Listen to Your Heart
AUTHOR: Kasie West
TARGET AUDIENCE: Young Adult
GENRE(S): Contemporary, Romance
Talking to other people isn’t Kate Bailey’s favorite activity. She’d much rather be out on the lake, soaking up the solitude and sunshine. So when her best friend, Alana, convinces Kate to join their high school’s podcast, Kate is not expecting to be chosen as the host. Now she’ll have to answer calls and give advice on the air? Impossible.
But to Kate’s surprise, she turns out to be pretty good at the hosting gig. Then the podcast gets in a call from an anonymous guy, asking for advice about his unnamed crush. Kate is pretty sure that the caller is gorgeous Diego Martinez, and even surer that the girl in question is Alana. Kate is excited for her friend … until Kate herself starts to develop feelings for Diego. Suddenly, Kate finds that while doling out wisdom to others may be easy, asking for help is tougher than it looks, and following your own advice is even harder.
Kasie West’s adorable story of secrets, love, and friendship is sure to win over hearts everywhere.
I just need to start this review by saying I LOVED THIS BOOK. This one is by far my favourite Kasie West book. While I still have several more to read before I’m finally caught up, this one is sitting at the top of my list!
Listen to Your Heart follows Kate Bailey. She lives by a lake and is always wanting to be out there. Along with her best friend, she joins the high school podcast class and ends up giving advice to fellow classmates.
I just absolutely adored this story. Kate is a character I honestly relate to so much. When she’s not by the lake, she’s thinking of it. I’m totally like that as my cottage is my favourite place to be. I’m always dreaming of being near the water. I just loved this aspect of her. All the other side characters, including Diego and Alana are wonderful. They really tugged at my heartstrings.
The podcast has got to be my favourite aspect of this book. I just loved the theme of giving people advice. And the way that Kate struggles with opening up is something a lot of us can relate to. But as a character working on the podcast, she truly develops. She becomes comfortable in her own skin which is wonderful to see.
I just absolutely adore this book and it’s the first of her books I’ve given five stars to. I’ll definitely be surprised if any of her other books top this one, because I’ll certainly be gushing about it for a while.
I highly, highly recommend this book. It’s charming and heartfelt. It’s full of heart and finding yourself. If you’re a fan of contemporary books or just easy, light reads, then this one is definitely for you!
