Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare - The Contented ReaderWhat if damnation is the price of true love?

Innocent blood has been spilled on the steps of the Council Hall, the sacred stronghold of the Shadowhunters. In the wake of the tragic death of Livia Blackthorn, the Clave teeters on the brink of civil war. One fragment of the Blackthorn family flees to Los Angeles, seeking to discover the source of the disease that is destroying the race of warlocks. Meanwhile, Julian and Emma take desperate measures to put their forbidden love aside and undertake a perilous mission to Faerie to retrieve the Black Volume of the Dead. What they find in the Courts is a secret that may tear the Shadow World asunder and open a dark path into a future they could never have imagined. Caught in a race against time, Emma and Julian must save the world of Shadowhunters before the deadly power of the parabatai curse destroys them and everyone they love.

Review

All good things must come to an end. And boy, this book is such a wonderful conclusion to a rollercoaster of a series! Cassandra Clare never ceases to amaze me with this world and these characters.

Queen of Air and Darkness picks up right after the events of Lord of Shadows. Without spoiling anything, the ending of the second book is huge and there are numerous questions to answer. Queen of Air and Darkness aims to answer all of these questions and ties up numerous storylines that occur throughout the trilogy.

I just have to totally gush about these characters another time. I LOVE THE BLACKTHORNS SO MUCH. Like with my whole heart. The entire family is just so loveable. And Ty especially, wow he’s just such a wonderful character. And I feel like we just got so much more of him in this novel that really shows development. And Emma obviously is just as great, as always.

Other notable characters that I totally love: Kieran, Clary, Jace, Magnus, Alec, Simon, Isabelle. Basically, I love everyone.

I feel like this book is a good ending to the trilogy overall. While there are parts of it that I felt are underdone or could have been flushed out better, I think I’m still pleased. It’s always difficult going into a book you know is the end. And there are definitely parts of this book that made me go, “hmm, really?”. But I’m happy overall. I also love the illustrations sprinkled throughout the book!

I’m so sad that this trilogy is over but it also means that there are more Cassandra Clare books to look forward to. I’m so excited for The Red Scrolls of Magic and Chain of Gold! I just can’t get enough of this world and I highly recommend it!

You may not yourself be luminous, but you are an extraordinary conductor of light.
