Happy Top Ten Tuesday, everyone!
One of the best things about starting this book blog is the opportunity to read books that I never thought I would read before. There are so many genres I tried in 2018. And so many new books I totally fell in love with (here’s looking at you, ACOMAF). I think this is one of the things I’m most excited about in 2019, too! New authors, new books, new experiences!
For those of you who are not familiar, Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl where she assigns a new topic each week and posts a top ten list to follow that theme.
Today’s theme is new to me authors in 2018! There are a lot of new authors that I really enjoyed in 2018 – both debut and experienced. I’m happy to say that all of these authors are one’s that I definitely will be on the lookout for in the future!
There’s no particular order to these authors and I’ll link any reviews to their books that I have up if you care to take a look!

Becky Albertalli // I read Simon vs. the HomoSapiens Agenda for the first time in anticipation for the movie release. And I thoroughly enjoyed it! I also read What If It’s Us and loved it! She’s such an enjoyable writer.
Tahereh Mafi // I read A Very Large Expanse of Sea in October and totally loved it. It’s a beautiful story and Mafi’s writing is beautiful. I want to dive into her middle grade series next!

Marie Lu // I read Warcross when it was released in 2017. But to be honest, I didn’t really remember it. So I re-read it in 2018 in anticipation of Wildcard. I thoroughly enjoyed this duology and am looking forward to reading more of her books!
Sarah J. Maas // I can’t believe I never read any of Maas’ books before 2018. Special shoutout to my cousin, Maddie, for introducing me to her. I absolutely love and adore her writing. Obviously, my favourite is the A Court of Thorns and Roses series. But I’m also slowly making my way through the Throne of Glass series!

Kasie West // I read Love, Life and the List in the beginning of 2018 and really enjoyed her writing style. I now want to read all of her backlist books because I just love to read contemporary romance. I’m hoping to get to more in 2019!
Sabaa Tahir // Tahir totally ripped my heart out and put it back together with An Ember in the Ashes. I can’t believe I didn’t read her books until last year. I quickly followed up with the rest of the books and can’t wait to post my reviews for them!

Adam Silvera // I’ve never read any of his solo books, but I did read What If It’s Us and it’s such a cute contemporary. I loved his chapters.
Neal Shusterman // I read Scythe in 2018 and while it isn’t my favourite book ever, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Shusterman is excellent at creating a dystopian world. I definitely want to get to Thunderhead at some point!

Jenny Han // I read To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before as part of a read-a-long hosted by Flavia! It is such a cute contemporary and I’m so glad I read it before the release of the Netflix movie. I got the next two books for Christmas so I’m excited to continue!
Holly Black // I read The Cruel Prince last year. And while I didn’t love it as much as everyone else, I did enjoy it. I also got to read The Wicked King early and I’m happy to say it was much better than the first!
These are just some of the new to me authors. I also really want to give an honourable mention to Helen Hoang. I loved her debut SO much and am super excited for The Bride Test. I’m so excited to see the new authors that 2019 brings! I have a lot of backlist books that I’m hoping to get around to this year. So here’s hoping I find some new authors to love!
Happy Tuesday, everyone!
Let’s Chat in the Comments!
Are any of these authors your favourite? Which authors were new to you in 2018? Are there any books by new to you authors in 2019 that you want to read?
All of the authors on your list sound intriguing to me. Might be time to start requesting their books from the library. 🙂
This is my Top Ten Tuesday post.
YAY! That’s great. I hope you enjoy their books if/when you read them! 💜
I really loved Scythe. I still need to read Thunderhead though. And Adam Silvera is a favorite of mine. I actually like his solo books better than I liked What If It’s Us.

That’s good to know! I’ll have to put his solo books on my radar for sure! Happy reading!
You mentioned some AMAZING authors! Sarah J. Maas is definitely one of my fave fantasy writers; ACOTAR also being a beloved series of mine! 🙂
Thank you! YES, I love that series. I really want to re-read just to relive it all 💖
I haven’t read most of these authors, but almost all of them are on my TBR. Haha. Maybe this is the year!
Aw, hopefully! They’re all fantastic, and I highly recommend! ✨
Love this list!! Most of the authors in this list were new to me last year too! 😊
Yay, I’m so glad 💜
Nice list! I love Shusterman, although I didn’t care much for SCYTHE. My favorite of his are the Unwind books and the Skinjacker series. I also enjoy Kasie West’s books when I’m looking for a light, easy read to sandwich between heavier reads. I’m glad you found all these new authors to love and hope you find even more in 2019!
Happy TTT!

I agree with you – it wasn’t my favourite but I’ll have to check his other ones out! Yes, I love Kasie West. Thanks, me too. Happy reading!
Neil was a new to me author last year as I got to meet him at my cities local book con! I absolutely ADORE Becky Albertalli and the others! <3 So glad you found them!
That’s wonderful! Thank you – so am I. I can’t wait to see who I discover this year!
Adam Silvera is amazing. I hope you get a chance to pick up some of his novels.
Thanks! They’re on my radar! ✨
So many great authors on your list! I’ve read most of these and I love them.
