What If It's Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera - The Contented ReaderArthur is only in New York for the summer, but if Broadway has taught him anything, it’s that the universe can deliver a showstopping romance when you least expect it.

Ben thinks the universe needs to mind its business. If the universe had his back, he wouldn’t be on his way to the post office carrying a box of his ex-boyfriend’s things.

But when Arthur and Ben meet-cute at the post office, what exactly does the universe have in store for them?

Maybe nothing. After all, they get separated.

Maybe everything. After all, they get reunited.

But what if they can’t quite nail a first date . . . or a second first date . . . or a third?

What if Arthur tries too hard to make it work . . . and Ben doesn’t try hard enough?

What if life really isn’t like a Broadway play?

But what if it is?

Review

What If It’s Us is a perfect, contemporary story! I had high expectations for this book. First, because of my own desire to love this book. Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera teaming up just seemed so perfect. And second, because of the hype surrounding it. I am so happy to say that it does not disappoint!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE these characters! Arthur and Ben are both adorable and quirky and just oh, so loveable! And the side characters in this book are just as loveable. You can’t help but root for Arthur and Ben from the moment they meet in the post office, which is honestly one of the best scenes in this book.

Arthur, is sweet, kind and quirky. Ben is rational and loving. Together, they balance each other and makes all of their interactions together so fun.  My favourite is definitely Ben though – I just found his character to be super relatable.

While romance is definitely a main focus for this book, it’s also about friendship and loyalty. It’s about mending fences and second chances. I really really love this aspect and found it just added to the story!

I also really enjoy the dual perspective. I think you can totally tell which author wrote which character. They both put their own spin on each one (in my opinion) and I really think it’s great.

I savoured every minute of this book and honestly wish I could have more. Fingers crossed that Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera collaborate again, because this book is just absolute perfection.

I highly, highly recommend picking this book up if you haven’t already! I definitely see this being a book I re-read in my future and I can’t wait for the opportunity to do so!

I barely know him. I guess that is every relationship. You start with nothing and maybe end with everything.
