Top Ten Tuesday | My Favourite YA Villains

Happy Top Ten Tuesday! Today is such a fun topic – villains.  I actually had a hard time trying to narrow down my list to just ten! That’s definitely a first for me.

Let’s face it – villains are quite often the greatest part of a book. Whether you absolutely hate them or you find yourself loving them, they definitely add to a book and its plot. This list is a compilation of some of my favourite villains. I would say that they are definitely ones I loved to hate, or they’re just written incredibly well.

As aways, there are links to the books below each image. And, I’ve mentioned the book that each villain first appeared in – especially for those that appear in several books of a series.

For those of you who are not familiar, Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl where she assigns a new topic each week and posts a top ten list to follow that theme.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone by JK Rowling - The Contented Reader
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by JK Rowling - The Contented Reader

Voldemort // The Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling // Honestly, what kind of list of villains would this be if I did not mention Voldemort? He’s just the first thing that pops into my mind when I think of the world villain.

Dolores Umbridge // Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by JK Rowling // Professor Umbridge is quite honestly, probably my all-time favourite villain. She’s just so vile and evil. I mean, anyone who makes children carve words into their hands has got to be a villain.

City of Glass by Cassandra Clare - The Contented Reader
City of Bones by Cassandra Clare - The Contented Reader

Sebastian Morgenstern // City of Glass by Cassandra Clare // Sebastian is definitely a villain I loved to hate. Plus, I’m just such a fan of the way that Cassandra Clare writes. She carefully crafts all of her characters so well, and Sebastian is no exception!

Valentine Morgenstern // City of Bones by Cassandra Clare // The original villain of the Mortal Instruments series. How can a list like this not include him? He’s definitely creepy and his decisions equal quintessential villain decisions!

Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - The Contented Reader
The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket - The Contented Reader

President Snow // The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins // Honestly, who sends twelve kids to their death every year? It’s just awful. Clearly this man has no heart. But he’s also a great villain for this series!

Count Olaf // The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket // I feel like Count Olaf was my first introduction to a villainous character when I was younger. Since I’ve recently been re-reading the series, he definitely is a creepy villain for kids!

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir - The Contented Reader
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard - The Contented Reader

The Commandment // An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir // I can’t even say anything about her except for the fact that she is the most calculated, well written villain I have ever loved to hate.

Maven Calore // Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard // Oh, Maven. He’s just so slimy and sneaky. He tricks you and then betrays you! Definitely a villain I love to hate!

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas - The Contented Reader
The Host by Stephenie Meyer - The Contented Reader

Amarantha // A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas // Since this is one of my all-time favourite series, I had to mention Amarantha. She’s definitely a villain I love to hate.

The Seeker // The Host by Stephenie Meyer // The Seeker was incredibly annoying and just never wanted to give up. She was one of those villains that added to the story, even though she was annoying, ha!

Well those are some of my favourite villains, who I love to hate! I know there are so many others I could mention, but this will have to do for now! Maybe I’ll have to do a part two next year, ha!

Happy Top Ten Tuesday, everyone!
