TITLE: The Kiss Quotient
AUTHOR: Helen Hoang
TARGET AUDIENCE: Adult
GENRE(S): Contemporary, Chick-Lit, Romance
A heartwarming and refreshing debut novel that proves one thing: there’s not enough data in the world to predict what will make your heart tick.
Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases–a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with, and way less experience in the dating department than the average thirty-year-old.
It doesn’t help that Stella has Asperger’s and French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. Her conclusion: she needs lots of practice–with a professional. Which is why she hires escort Michael Phan. The Vietnamese and Swedish stunner can’t afford to turn down Stella’s offer, and agrees to help her check off all the boxes on her lesson plan–from foreplay to more-than-missionary position…
Before long, Stella not only learns to appreciate his kisses, but to crave all the other things he’s making her feel. Soon, their no-nonsense partnership starts making a strange kind of sense. And the pattern that emerges will convince Stella that love is the best kind of logic…
After hearing about The Kiss Quotient, I was immediately curious to see if this book lived up to the hype. I am happy to say that it absolutely does. This book deserves all the stars.
The Kiss Quotient tells the story of Stella Lane. Lane is an intelligent and wealthy econometrician who happens to have Aspergers. Dating makes her uncomfortable so she decides to hire an escort to help teach her how to date.
Stella is definitely at the top of my list of favourite characters. She is complex and stubborn but also fierce and independent. I absolutely loved witnessing her develop as a character. Watching her flourish as an individual based on her relationship with Michael was so enjoyable.
Similarly, Michael is a wonderful counterpart to this story. His background and family adds a depth to the story that is beautiful. While he has conflicting thoughts about his relationship with Stella, he is always kind an considerate to her.
In addition to fabulous characters, this is one of the steamiest romance books I have ever read. It is filled with passionate romance that constantly fills your heart with joy. You will never want to put this book down.
Hoang’s own Aspergers gives a realistic representation within the novel. I absolutely love that Hoang incorporates a piece of herself into her debut novel. This representation of Aspergers is important and I hope it will be embraced in more novels in the future.
I highly recommend picking up The Kiss Quotient. Above all, it is a charming and heartfelt story with remarkable main characters. You will fall in love with these characters, this story and the impeccable writing. If you’re anything like me, you’ll be counting down the days to Hoang’s next book, The Bride Test!
