Blacklist Blast

Backlist Blast #6 – Scythe

Today’s Baacklist Blast post goes to a young adult sci-fi, dystopian novel that has been on my to be read list since it came out!

For those of you who are unfamiliar, Backlist Blast is a weekly meme hosted by Flavia from Flavia the Bibliophile and Milana from A Couple Reads. The purpose of the meme is to showcase books that were published at least six months prior to the publishing of these blog posts. These books can either be past favourites, or just books on those huge TBR lists we have!

One of the things about being a serial reader is that there are so many books you want to read but so little time. I get distracted by ARCs I’m sent and upcoming/new releases that sometimes books I’m super interested in just fall through the cracks.

I’ve been wanting to read Scythe for a while now. I’m hoping that by showcasing it, it will force me to pick it up soon! I’ve also heard great things about Neal Shusterman’s writing and I’m looking forward to reading one of his books!

Scythe by Neal Shusterman

Publisher: Simon Schuster Books for Young Readers | Release: November 22nd, 2016

Thou shalt kill.

A world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery. Humanity has conquered all those things, and has even conquered death. Now scythes are the only ones who can end life—and they are commanded to do so, in order to keep the size of the population under control.

Citra and Rowan are chosen to apprentice to a scythe—a role that neither wants. These teens must master the “art” of taking life, knowing that the consequence of failure could mean losing their own.

Have you read Scythe? What were your thoughts? Have you read any other of Shusterman’s books that you would recommend to me?

Happy Thursday, everyone!
